...that as soon as your question scrolls off the first page the number of answers and ratings drop off dramatically?

Anyone want to take a shot explaining why?

Because most who are on here only see it as a game... they are not interested in honest questions or answers... just points and as fast as they can get them... or in making as many assinine comments as fast as possable... so why look for honest questions that might need and honest answer... take the one at the top and move on....

People don't want to check the back of the queue. But it could also be the case that the longer one question keeps posted the more chances it has to draw answers. A large number of answers is a turn off. You may find yourself repeating the same answer with 10 Joes.

Some people want to take their answers "hot of the press" and just keep working down and never get to the next page.

Because people don't feel like reading that many answers, and it's not at the top of the list anymore, so you have to scroll down farther to get to it. Because of this people get distracted by other questions before getting to the older ones.

I don't have time to read all the questions on the first page, much less time to read the other pages.

And, it's entertainment for me, so I'm not that inclined to search for questions to answer when there are so many available without searching (looking at other pages).

i guess this prevents people from obtaining new yahoo IDs so they can go trolling.

also if the topic is really interesting, people will look for it and while looking for the topic they may spot another topic that interests them- answer that topic then move onto the questions that interests them.-- point is yahoo wants to keep the participation rate up and keep topics interesting>/?

If you like another system better than this one suggest it to yahoo.
i've chatted on yahoo sports section which used the 'bumping' system; the most recently replied topics are on top.

because people just read the first page - I know I hardly ever go past it unless there is nothing I want to answer on the first page.

I'd say because very few people want to go any further than the first page.

I just think it gets viewed by less people. The first 5 catch your eye.
