I was thinking about a question and this one came to mind. Does anyone know why this is?

I am sure I thought about that at one time, I think about alot of things....but...let's see if I can provide an answer for you. They use that phrase as an expression, I guess they aren't educated on the sleep patterns of an infant or they aren't experienced parents, or they just can't think of anything to say when describing how good they sleep.

I don't think it refers to the entire night's sleep pattern (because you're right! they do wake up and cry every couple hours!) but rather to the deep, peaceful, worry-free, restful sleep that babies seem to enjoy. If you look at them when they are sleeping, it just seems very different than when a grown person is sleeping.

When people say they sleep like a baby, it doesn't mean that they wake up crying to get some milk when they feel hungry.
It means that like a baby, they love sleeping comfortably and peacefully, at longer hours.

It is saying , watch a baby sleep they are peacefull and relaxed and very lovely to watch sleep > for people to say they slept like a baby they probably mean't they had a relaxed rest no-matter how long they sleep

I think because when babies do sleep, they sleep really hard.

i don't think they are talking about that part but they could be referring to the part where babies seem to sleep peacefully for hours

Because when they are sleeping..you cant hardly wake em up..in other word, they sleep hard

because they look so peaceful when they are sleeping and because they dont cry when they sleep. probably the first one.
