if you know God there is no misinterpretation, however it is evident that non-christians misinterpret the bible and take things out of context and have no understanding of the complete picture ... so, comprehension skills? I think someone that wants to bash the bible and christians that believe in it without even having a basic understanding of it themselves just make themselves look foolish ... its like a grocery store clerk bashing a physics book and a professor of physics without even knowing what the physics book says. ... so, i see many questions posed to try to make a case against the bible that just prove, by the very nature of the question, that the asker has no knowledge of the bible ... so its like trying to make a case for your cause to someone that has no idea what you are talking about ... its almost pointless to talk to them. reading one chapter out of a book of moses then trying to quote on it to make a point is asinine ... the unlearned nature of the asker shines through and it makes someone that IS learned not even want to respond to it. ... in other words to be blunt ... it makes them look stupid ... first at least have a knowledge of the subject you wish to bash.

I think you're nuts. Nobody could possibly take the bible literally because it contradicts itself. You can't get past the first book without encountering a HUGE pair of mutually exclusive events - the two accounts of creation in Genesis.
In chapter 1 Genesis says humans were created AFTER other animals while in chapter 2 it says humans were created BEFORE other animals.
Chapter 1 says Man and Woman were made at the SAME time. Chapter 2 says Man was made first, THEN other animals, THEN Woman was created from Man's rib. (Hah! Silly!)
Next time someone says they're a literalist, ask them which is false; Gen 1 or Gen 2?

First the use of the term Fundamentalist is an Ad Hominem (which is not conducive to rational discourse).
Second, nobody thaat I have come across takes a complex library of books (like the Bible) literally in all passages and contexts.
Cordially,
John

Actually my reading comprehension skills are excellent, and I'm too smart to misinterpret! lol
The Scriptures say "study and show yourself approved". When I read something that I kind of don't understand, I look it up, and dig deeper to find out what it means, that's what this verse means.

That could be the case, but also it's prevalent the idea that once the word is printed it ceases to breathe life. This idea is quite prevalent in the US mindset. so it doesn't come as a surprise that the most vocal fundamentalist hail from Bible Belt US.

No, it's because blindly believing every word literally takes even LESS thought than blindly believing, but having to do that pesky reinterpretation when you are proved wrong. It's an aversion to thought.

Bad reading skills? Do you have to use condescension to get your point across? Why don't you just let us believe what we want?

is there a question in there somewhere, or are you one of those people who think that you can simply take a declarative sentence, slap a "?" at the end of it, and transform it INTO a question? are you also against literacy?
