They would get a warrant and then break into the home. Although if there is a chance that a crime (serious crime) has been committed in the home or that the homeowner is in danger, they can break into the home and go looking for the homeowner without a warrant.

look around the outside, try and look into the windows.
Then it will go to departments regulations on what they want thier officers to do, normally check with supervisor on duty.
Possible actions, file a report so that a citation will be issued to the resident of that property, have supervisor ok breaking door in to check to see if there is a problem. Interview neighbors and find out more info first

They would check doors and windows front, back and sides. They would contact radio dispatch and use the address to get a phone number. If their was no answer and they felt that there may be an individual(s) in danger, they would use forced entry to check on the residence.

An innovative an immaginitive young officer would walk around to the side of the house, open the electrical circuit panel box, and throw the main power switch to OFF. He might even take the fuse or breaker switch with him, or toss it in the backyard of the neighbor's house - the one with the pitbull in it. :)

I don't know. I would hope they didn't have the right to break your door down. Police think they can get away with anything though, so that's my guess too.
