you can try Photoshop or Illustrator by Adobe
They are great programs and well worth the time and effort to learn . They are expensive but they are worth every penny. Go to http://www.Adobe.com
and you can download a free 30 day trial of both programs that is fully functional.
You can also get a program similar to Photoshop called Gimp.
It is FREE to download and never expires. Gimp is almost just like Photoshop without the famous name behind it. Its a great alternative if you don't have the money for Photoshop or Illustrator.
Why people create free programs beats me but it is really good and not cheesy.Gimp, like Photoshop has all the design tools to create a great logo. Be patient cause it does take a little time to learn.

adobe photoshop is the greatest imaging software i have ever used for 2D images.
it's expensive though, perhaps you could borrow a copy from a friend, or be a bad boy and download a ripped copy. up to you.
