Most religions really try to install fear in you, so you feel you have to go to church, or else you'll go to hell. God is everywhere, and until people believe that, the Church's are making a hugh profit! I use to go to church every single Sunday, took all my kids to CCD, and tried to teach my kids everything I learned growing up in the Catholic religion. The church looked down on me when I divorced my first husband, and they wanted money,to get me back, and then my oldest grew up and became a Mormon, my son does not go to church at all, and my other daughter don't know what to believe? We all believe in God, but each different religion says: I AM THE TRUE CHURCH!! So which one??? I just try to live a good life, help my friends and neighbors, love animals, and pray to God whenever and where ever I want. I'm happy, and don't believe I'm going to hell, but sometimes wonder where the radicals are going!

Thought-provoking question. I really don't know. But you should also consider all the unsolved mysteries about the universe and life on Earth. Maybe violence and war and tragic natural disasters and whatnot are just God's way of showing us that he's here? Meh, I'm not a Christian so I really can't say.

I don't think religion is a comfort to most people's conscience. I believe that those who use religion to 'explain' heinous acts have no conscience to begin with. Killing people is always wrong. Not what you wanted to hear was it?

Religion is senseless. There is no evidence. People just need the comfort and the security.

Absolutely, a lot of the reason religous groups have so much powere is because they promise salvation to their followers, and burning in hell if they don't.
