I know that morphine comes from opium which comes from the poppy flower, so can this then be reversed?

I am not a stupid person, nor have i ever taken morphine and hope i never need to (for medical pain relief). It's just a question that i thought of while i was studying pharmacology and never had a chance to ask.. so no, i am not kidding. Chill out you know-it-all crack morphine heads. I was hoping for a detailed chemical breakdown for why not as my answer. Preferably from someone who actually knows a lot about pharmacology. Thanks.

So much for this being a "fun" question. I appreciate all the insults, thanks. This site is useless.

I think you may have clouded your question in the manner in which you proposed it. Yes you can Reverse the process. What your talking about is altering the Biomolecular structure (reverse isomer similar to cloning its genetic sequence ). Pharmaceutical companies have done something similar by producing synthetic morphines (Hydromorphone, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone,Levorphanol, Methadone, Meperidine). An answer to your question is YES it is possible to use Genetic(Biochemistry), isolate the gene sequence, replace it in another seed and grow a flower. This is also the same process thats used in the production of Genetically altered agricultural product i.e corn, wheat, rice. Good luck in getting your Doctorate in Biogenetic Engineering :).......but whatever you do....don't use your own stuff

Morphine is an extremely powerful opiate analgesic drug and is the principal active agent in opium. You have to plant opium seed to get opium plant. In the distant future, it may or may not be possible to produce a tissue culture plant of opium from morphine by applying biotechnolgy.

LOL no. A SEED is needed to make a plant grow. If you grind up a seed to dust and extract a portion of it then you do not have enough to get a plant to grow from it. (nor is it in the proper configuration)

No, it's not in the correct environment for growing marijuana because it is grown in a very hot and humid climate, perhaps in a home closet with heat and hot lamps.... The picture appears to outside in the woods and cold.

no you cannot, it would be the same as pouring gasoline on the ground and expect it to revert back to crude oil. once something is processed it can't return to natural state.
