Decent cars...but take it to your Dodge dealer and get an estimate on the necessary repairs. Some engines can be damaged nearly beyond repair with the Timing Belt breaks. I dont know if your Stratus Engine is one of those or not...If it needs a new belt and nothing else is damaged, it should be a 3-400 dollar job...If it has computer problems...Is it the computer? Sensors? could be a couple hundred bucks...or 1500 bucks...no way of knowing without getting it diagnosed by a mechanic.

Get it inspected, then go to www.edmunds.com and use their Used Car Appraiser to get the private party sale value...and adjust downward based upon the cost of the needed repairs, and hopefully the 'FAMILY' discount!!!

Oh yeah...and dont get it diagnosed by the 20yr old that works at the parts counter at the AutoZone etc...Take it to a Full time Professional mechanic that specializes in your make of car. These experts are found at your local Dodge dealer...

Timing belts and computers are both expensive items to replace.

Timing belt replacement often seems to run anywhere from 800-1000 far as I recall on average, and a computer can be easily $250 just for it; labor and so forth is zero.

It depends on whether you want the hassle of taking it to a mechanic, how low the price is, and what the actual symptoms are with the car - for all you know, your aunt is way off in left field with what could be wrong.

Well unless your aunt is a mechanic i wouldn't take her word on the mechanical problems with the car.
But if it is one or the other problems i recommend going to the auto part store and have them put their diagnostic comp. to see what the problem is. Auto Zone does it for free.Start there anyway.
