My BLM got a deep cut on his paw 15 days ago. I took him to the vet and he got some stiches. The stiches came out on their own after a few days and the wound was still gaping. I took him back to the vet on day 7. He put a collogen type of dressing on it then wrapped it up. The wrap keeps coming off and I replace it. I've been using EMT gel (it's a collagen based material) and neosporin. The wound is not looking any better. I'm at my wits end and need help. It is still gaping.

Why is the bandage coming off? I think the vet should take another look. I know that he could be allergic to neosporin. Many are. The foot needs to be clean and wrapped tightly and you must keep him from pulling the bandage off for at least a week or more. Peroxide is the best to clean a wound.

Likely your dog keeps taking it off. It will have to heal from the inside out. Try to keep it clean and dry. As long as it isn't bleeding or draining it should slowly close shut on its own. Did you try calling your vet. Might save u a office charge. Is the dog a inside dog? Sometimes the triple antibiotic will keep it moist and prevent it from like forming a scab. Try just antibacterial soap and water several times a day. Be sure and rinse the soap off. Good Luck:)

try this stuff called bag balm. it is actually used for cow udders, and can be found at farm supply stores. it kind of works like vaseline. It will moisturize his paw and hopefully help it heal. If it is bleeding, I would take him back to the vet. also, you can use vetwrap by 3m, it works quite well at wrapping up paws, and horses legs lol. ut sticks to itsself and is heavy duty. (also quite cheap) hope this helps
