Depending on amount, you usually get it spread out for the duration of the enlistment. Example, you get $60,000 bonus for signing for 6 years. You would get an extra $10,000 a year added to your pay. Actually, it's better that way because you actually pay less taxes. You only pay taxes each year for what your income is, so your taxes are spread out over the same 6 years. I have heard of guys taking it all at once, though. Uncle Sugar takes a HUGE chunk in taxes, then

Bonus are decied by what job, the recruiter can tell you how much a bonus is and weather or not that job has one, not all jobs get a bonus. You usually get half of the bonus after basic and training, then you get so much each year until the end of your enlistment, your bonus is taxed by the good ol US goverment. Maybe you should check into the Air Force too. The Airf Force has active duty, reserves and Air National Gaurd, they offer many job opportunities and basic training is only 6 weeks.

You only get a bonus for certain jobs and they vary depending on the job. I believe you get half after all your training and half when your enlistment is up. A recruiter could explain the process. But do not choose your job based entirely on the bonus you will receive. Those are usually the jobs that few people will take. Usually because they suck or are really dangerous!

An enlistment bonus is based on your MOS. The way it is paid varies. In some cases they will give you the entire bonus once you complete your MOS training, in other cases you get half of the bonus upon completing the training (less taxes which is about 35%) and then each year on the anniversary of your enlistment you get a portion equal to half divided by the number of years left on your enlistment. To get a more clear answer on this talk to your recruiter and ask him to show you the details in writing...
