I used to give my son a big beautiful apple. Most of the time the tooth came out in it.

Some kids are scared to pull their teeth. Afraid it will hurt, etc. Explain the process and that it doesn't hurt if the tooth is ready to come out. Tell him why we loose our teeth and that he will get another one soon. Keep encouraging him to "wiggle" it so that it will get looser on it's own, and it may even fall out without having to be pulled.

Try to keep him calm about it. Talking about how he needs to pull it or it will come out in his food or his sleep are not good things. Especially if he's scared for some reason that could make matters much worse.

Remember that children love games! Just about anything that will involve a game of pulling his tooth he probably will at least be willing to participate in. I have a little one that is going through this stage and he enjoyed the old fashioned door knob trick. Also, you may want to remind him that the tooth fairy will be leaving money. When all else fails..money will usually win them over. HA HA..Good luck!!
