krsone: There is no doubting that Jesus probably existed. Only the stories leave much room for doubt.

Great name BTW!

Taking the issue of divinity out of it, I doubt that Jesus of Nazareth saw himself as a messiah. A wise man for his time period he may have been but I don't think he himself made the marble pedestal; those that came after him did.

Your question is so old. Are you just complaining or do you really want to know.

Just to humor you: read the book of Isaiah, it lists who the Messiah would be (as does Malachi and many others). Then flip over to the New Testament and you will see that Jesus fit the description of who the Messiah would be. Here are a few:
1. Born in the line of David.
2. Crucified (btw- they didn't even have that when Isaiah was written. It is a Roman thing).
3. Born of a virgin
4. Born in Bethlahem
5. No bones broken
6. Rejected by his people
7. Will not see decay
8. Betrayed by 30 pieces of silver

I asked a devout Jew once, "Could Jesus have been the Messiah?" He said, "Yes, but He wasn't the one we were looking for."

The strange thing is that the Apostles knew He was the Messiah. And the tradition of Him being God and His "Messiahship" are documented from at least 70 BC. He made little claim only eluding to His place. Later, He admitted He was Judge. It was understood, however, that He was God.

Islam will argue as you do that it was made up later. If you can accept Jesus as risen then it is not as simple to explain away why He didn't correct His Apostles (Islam). If you can't or don't think its likely then this is a logical conclusion (Agnostic). Normally, the argument is made by pushing the date back to 324 BC, and claiming it was made up then, rather than being ancient tradition even at the time.

Sometimes, I wonder if this argument is the reason for His statement "Only God is Good."

It is difficult to understand when He knew Himself the Messiah, though He did run off as a child and spend time at temple (He went to His Father's house).

Jesus meets the criteria of those for whom He meets the criteria. the criteria are particularly a lot even with someone comes to a call those criteria are. i really do not imagine he meets the necessary criteria of the Messiah, and that i imagine the Jews are best as a effect. besides the undeniable fact that, i do not really imagine he replaced into intending to be the Messiah, and His legitimacy would not relax on that in any respect,so a options as i'm worried. Jesus honestly replaced right into a holy guy, and his followers found that even after his lack of existence, he endured no longer on to be with them. They were so insistent of this that they could die truly than admit that it replaced into no longer so. you could draw close a faith on that, and that is precisely what occurred. i do not recognize the info, yet something huge for sure occurred, and that is adequate for me. Your mileage would variety.

Oh, there's plenty of reason to think that Jesus never existed. For one thing, if you account for all of Jesus' activities in the Gospels (not counting the supposed 40 days he spent in the 'wilderness'), it adds up to about 3 weeks.

Modern biblical scholarship makes a very compelling case for Jesus being fictional. The New Testament is a fraud.

You must believe He/Jesus/ is real or you would not have asked the question.. and there is the trinity..the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. I am not a Bible scholar and I will not debate with you about any scriptures or such. But I believe Jesus was and is still alive..He is real..He didn't decide anything He just came to fulfill what God had already planned...

Well... it was forteold that JEsus would be the Messiah - but if you're looking for a "defining moment", then it woiuld be when Jesus would be about 12 and remained behind to study at the temple.

Jesus didn't "decide" to be the Messiah; He was the Messiah.

The gospels are a reporting from those who either walked with Jesus....or knew those who did.
