You are in luck. Garmin just released the mother of all car GPS systems the C550. The new system is much superior to TomTom in that it has a better GPS reciever and a far more accurate map system of the US and North America (TomTom might have a better European map system). I have this system and it is very, very nice.

I don't have much use for the Bluetooth or the Traffic FM feature (only really useful if you live near a major city). However, the voice directions are top notch as is the search function for various attractions, food, gas, atm, local entertainment, malls, whatever. Let's say you want to order a pizza. You search for the nearest pizza place. It lists name, address and telephone number. But, if you have a bluetooth enabled phone, it will dial the restaurant for you and act as a speaker phone. Order your pizza and then go. Nice. But I prefer an el cheapo cell phone I don't care if it breaks. If you find yourself dead stopped in traffic, a detour function will find you an alternate route. If you sign up for an optional traffic info service, the device will intelligently route out the best path around traffic based on real time data supplied by the service (only available for major cities unfortunately or I would sign up for that in a heartbeat).

One thing I really like about it is you can choose to search near your location or, instead, search near your current route. This is convenient for say, stopping off for gas, along a major highway instead of threading through a bunch of side streets to find a gas station that is nearby, but a hassle to get to.

Worth every penny, in my opinion.

The Iway 500C is awesome. It costs a bit more than the other ones, but has a lot more features. Its available at Staples and Bass Pro.
