Make a balance. (like a teeter totter) Put a loaf of bread or something else that says it's a pound on one side. Put hamburger on the other side until the balance is even. That will be a pound.

Does the package tell you how much is in it? If, for example, it weighs five pounds, cut the package in five equal pieces, and you will have one pound pieces.

If all else fails, why do you need to know if it weighs a pound, anyway? Just put as much as you think you and your family or guests will eat, and cook that. It really doesn't matter how much it weighs.

You know what i do? I take a handful and pack it in my hand like a medium size snowball...that usually cooks up to the size of a quarter pounder from mickey d's, soooo do that like six times. It won't be dead-on, but close.

you don't have to be too exact for most recipes with ground beef included in the list of ingredients. read the store label and estimate.

Look at the label. It will tell you what the total package weigh, and then divide it accordingly.
