God removes the christians who believe truely. This prepares the earth for 7 years of trials, during wich time most of the persons left behind will die. some will come to be believers. after those seven years, jesus will return to the earth to judge the devil and his followers. Then, he will rule the earth for 1000 years. Many more details are provided by several religious writers including Tim LeHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. They have a new book out explaining the Rapture. It is titled The Rapture.

basically, Jesus will come back and take those who have accepted Him as their Savior (living and those who have already died) to Heaven. Then, the Tribulation will begin. There will be a lot of suffering and the Antichrist will rise and rule the entire world for a time (World Government type of thing), then there will be the untimate fight of Good vs. Evil and God will win. Have you ever watched the movie Left behind (I know that it's fiction, but a lot of what they portrey comes from the Bible)
The way we know that the world is close to the Rapture and the Tribulation is when Israel will make peace with the Arabs. Be on the look out for a peace treaty.

To keep it simple. During the Rapture the Church of Jesus Christ will be taken from Earth. These are the people that are going straight into Heaven and bypassing Judgement Day and/or Armageddon.
Details are vague as to how it will happen, but every indication is that these people will just disappear in a mass exodus.

The bible says we will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. It's in 1 Thessalonians 4:17. How exactly this happens, I have no idea. I just believe it could happen at any time. This is, of course, born again believers in Jesus Christ that these verses refer to.
By the way, there is a silly argument over the word rapture not being in the bible. The word came from the translation of the Latin Vulgate.

Well, you may laugh, but I'm going to tell you exactly what I believe. According to 1Thessalonians 4:16,17, we shall be "caught up". The Greek language here implies a swift snatching up. I believe that if we saw angels today, we would call them aliens, because they actually do fly in spaceships (UFOs). At the command of Almighty God, the angels will be dispatched to earth (Matthew 24:31), for the rapture. They will swoop down close to ground level, and literally "beam up" true, dedicated Christians into their spaceships. We may be escorted to a huge mother ship stationed near earth, or escorted to some other planet, where there are temporary holding facilities for us, until the earth can be made a safe place to live again, once Satan, and his demonic forces are defeated and imprisoned, and Jesus is ready to establish His millennial kingdom.

To read a description of the rapture, see St. Paul's account in the book of 1 Corithians Chapter 15. Paul explains what will happen to the living and the dead in Christ.

That is when Jesus returns to Earth. Its'a a Chruch coiined Name just so that thay can have it happen before the Tribulation. And the triumphant entry at the end of the tribulation (which is the real rapture by the way) can still happen on schedule.
The rapture was created by the church so that they could feel warm and fuzzy and think that they dont have to live therouth the tribulation (Earth's worst 7 years ever)

Christians are very divided on this issue. The word "rapture" is not biblical. It is an assumed event that may be taken out of context.

The rapture is a bad missinterpretation of the bible, I used to believe in it but then much of scripture isn't meant to be taken literally. There are people who study about the end of the world But we can never know the time that it will come.
There won't literally be locusts with human heads that cannot be killed.
