If you had recently graduated from college and had just begun a career (let's say you and the other person are both in your early 20s), would you feel comfortable dating someone with a kid?

When thinking about your position on this question, consider short-term and long-term problems that could arise. i.e. - Financial situation, etc.

And yes I understand short term is not that big a deal but if things were to get serious you would then have to support (at least) 3 people. And last time I checked, you don't immediately get benefits for having a family all of a sudden.

no i personally wouldn't. you are only so young and there are opportunities out there - relationships. you may not find too much short term problems cus you are all young and can conquer all things. long term would be the father of child paying child support, want to gain custody, you two have children and the other one feeling being abandoned etc. if you are so young, i wouldn't recommend. not like you have no choice.

Yes for short and long term. Financially it wouln't a big deal. The guy should have a job..and I'd have a job. But really, the only problem I could see is if the kid didn't want a new mommy. That can be a BIG deal. No one wants to be with a guy if the kid is a disrespectful brat. And as long as the guy was open to having another kid..it'd be fine by me.

Every situation is different. I am dating a guy who is 27 and has a 4 year old son and I am 22. When you are in a situation like that you need to think whether you can handle it or not or if you see a future with this person. Its not easy but if you are willing to try and be patient then go for it. Just think if it works out you came across something wonderful and if it doesn't then you live and you learn all apart of growing up. I can all speak on my situation so far I would not trade it for anything. Good luck.

You should be the one thinking about short/long term problems. I personally try to avoid the "kid" thing because you'll always have to deal with the child's other parent no matter what. Besides, call me selfish, but I want my child to be the first child between me and my significant other. Furthermore, it makes breaking up much more complex when a child is involved especially if they've gotten attached to you. It's a big step, I'd think about it if I were you.

Benefits to dating someone with a child:

~ You know they can have kids
~ You know what there kids look like (cute or like they were hit with a giant potato masher)
~ They put out!! ;-)
~ They are serious and ready to settle down (so less likely to string you along or be into games)
~ They likely don't fool around on the side (not enough time)
~ You can see/experiance their parenting styles and se if they jive with yours
~ there is a kid involved that can truley love you!
~ less compitition
~ You can see if the family thing is as fun as you hope it to be before getting married (It is!)
~ Kids give you an exscuse to get all those kids toys you know you still want to play with!

Good luck!

Cheers!

Sure would. In fact...I HAVE! Financial issues are not yours to bare concerning the child, unless you marry the mother, or adopt the child. PERIOD! That's what "child support" is for. You can still be nice to the kid...but don't let yourself get sucked into the responsibilities of being there for that child...unless you want to.

Don't want kids of my own so wouldn't on a long-term basis but would possibly be ok for a short-term casual relationship.

I have never met a woman who had a kid ! Pet goats are not easy to look after and you need a warm shed for them in the winter !
