That's kind of true. The main risks with marijuana are lung damage from:
- smoke inhalation (many users smoke through bongs or eat dope cookies to minimise this damage; many dope smokers feel that, since, unlike cigarette smokers, they aren't smoking all day every day, they don't do nearly as much damage)
- Slight change of triggering latent schizophrenia -- only a risk if you're already "wired to be schizophrenic" as far as I know.

It is not very addictive (i.e. less addictive than caffeine), but can be habit forming. People who smoke very often (i.e. every couple of days for more than a couple of weeks) are often less motivated than they would otherwise be.

If you do consider smoking dope, try to keep it down to once a week. As long as you give your brain a chance to recover before returning to school/work, you shouldn't suffer any performance decrease as a result of smoking marijuana. (It's not that hard to study/work the day after a session, but it's a bad habit to get into :) )

My drug use has varied over the years; I've used marijuana both as a social drug and as a way to 'switch off' during periods of great stress. I have known people who smoked constantly -- they were still basically healthy, but they started to have some odd ideas, which were often half-baked...

First of all it's marijuana. But no it isn't. You will be told everything else and get quoted statistics to back it up but it isn't true. Pot won't kill you....or your future. But getting into the habit of using any substance regularly for any justifiable reason will get you into trouble eventually. Moderation is key...and I would say a joint is less dangerous than a shot of tequila. But be sensible....smoking ANYTHING isn't good for you. But you wanted to know how bad it was for you. It certainly isn't comparable to Meth or Heroin and it is laughable that they are categorized together.
It is a lie that it is physically addictive, it is not. it can be psychologically addictive....but then so can porn. Take some responsiblity people! Also the "gateway drug" theory is a load of BS. I have studied with many a psychologist and at risk kids....There is no gateway drug. Just people who want to shift blame. I agree with the one posted you should be 18. At least this will allow you time to mature emotionally before taking ANY mind altering substance.

Ive been a daily pot smoker for aobut 20 years and the only side effect Ive had is weight gain.I do have a little short term memory loss but I think thats from the harder drugs I did when I was younger. And I used to drink really bad and had a lot more adverse effects from that.

True it isn't as bad as other drugs. No one ever O.D'ed on pot. But just the same it is smoking and has the same effect on your body. It takes longer because most people don't smoke as much as people smoke cigarettes. Jeez they'd pass out. It isn't physically addicting, but many people are attracted to its calming effect. It does kill brain cells and cause short term memory loss and it is still illegal. You could get a prescription for an antidepressant and feel the same way without risking jail or cancer.

marajauna when smoked by some ppl dont do any other drugs but for most ppl it can lead to more dangerous drugs. some ppl believe smoking pot if you have a cronic illness and can prove it is benificial to relieving the symptoms and pain and flareups of that drug that certain states including california and canada have approved it for medical reasons. when you smoke pot to get high and it leads to harder drugs you can do and say things espically criminally that you normally wouldnt do if you were clean

Yes it's true, the smoke is really rough on your lungs and it's easy to do something stupid while your stoned but no real health hazards.

Oh wait I just thought of some really bad health hazards. If you get caught and go to jail you could get raped by an aids infected inmate. You could also loose your job while your in jail and end up homeless and broke.

Spend your money on something useful.

It is not too bad, but it should be treated like any drug-responsibly.
I don't condone anyone under 18 or 19 to smoke marijuana because it can affect your development.
Be careful and have fun but don't do it until you are older, or else never do it because it is a bit overrated.

You should come meet some of the People I grew up with ....... You never seen such a screwed up group of people in your life ....... They too thought Mary Jane was harmless...... One is doing 20 yrs for breaking and entering, & arson ( stealing for drugs). another is basically in and out of mental wards, and One female friend who's relationships have really been screwed up for trying to party all the time. I know Another who was shot at by her drug abusive husband. and lastly One person I worked with who flipped his car over the median and killed a mother and a baby while drinking and smoking dope :-s ..... so do us all a favor and realize YES it can screw up your life.

Cognitive effects
•In some cases, small amounts of paranoia and anxiety in some users[17]
•Changes in coordination and distorted sense of time [18]
•Impairment of short-term memory in some users
•Auditory or visual hallucinations at high doses in some users
•Induced sense of novelty
•Increased awareness of sensation, including visual stimulation, music, taste, and sexual pleasure
•Increased mental activity, like metacognition and introspective or meditative states of mind
•Relaxation or stress reduction
•Mild entheogenesis (e.g. per Rastafari movement users, more "Jah-Vibrations")
•Many people report that cannabis strongly stimulates ideation and creativity

Behavioral effects
•Varying degrees of euphoria and feelings of well-being, ranging from feelings of general well-being to lengthy fits of laughter
•Paramnesia, repetitiveness and ambiguation
•Initial wakefulness followed by drowsiness and lassitude ("burnout")

Physiological effects
•Anti-emetic properties (in moderate doses) [19]
•Lower intraocular pressure
•Dilation of blood vessels (vasodilation),[20] resulting in:
oIncreased blood flow and heart rate (tachycardia)
oReddening or drying of eyes
•Lower blood pressure while standing; higher blood pressure while sitting (note that this can lead to instances of orthostatic hypotension, also known as head rush)
•Increased appetite (often referred to as "the munchies"), an effect of stimulation of the endocannabinoid system, which affects body weight, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia[21] Some reports also claim that the drug can function as an appetite suppressant, and laborers in some parts of Africa, the Caribbean and other parts of the world where hunger is a daily reality for many people are known to use the drug to alleviate hunger
•Mild, temporary dry mouth (sometimes referred to as cottonmouth, cottonchops, dry-mouth, pasties, the drys (NZ), "the deserties" (AUS), or "the sandbox" (the republic of ZL and AL))
•Dilation of alveoli (air sacs) in lungs, resulting in deeper respiration and increased coughing when smoked
•May cause numbness, especially in the legs and arms—usually only with high doses or first-time experiences
•Pleasent feelings throughout the body. Areas of the body affected tend to differ between users, and between different strains of cannabis

My question . . . why bother . . . you never know what you are really buying or smoking on the black market. Why open up the only body you have to a risk of abuse?

Compared to other drugs its not as bad (it is not quite as addictive but can be habit forming), but its still harsh on your lungs and muddles your mind. Especially your short-term memory. Dont expect to be able to learn very well after smoking pot! lol
Oh, and it stinks.
