There is something called "Bliss" which you feel when you remember God accurately as He is. He is a soul. When your mind concentrates in Him, when your feelings go towards Him, there is nothing but this experience of Bliss. Purity has a lot to do with this. The purer a soul is, the less waste in your thoughts, the higher your connection. What you are doing is called meditation.

The same reason I get happy when I think about Santa. You associate the story of god with good things, because you were told he was good. I get happy when I think about Santa, because when I was little, I was told the story of Santa, and that he brings good things.
