Well, this definitely isn't heaven. Why do we die if this is the afterlife?

Well, this very well may be the "afterlife", but in that event what do you concider "life" if this comes second, there must have been a first, what could that have been,
and as for this being the "afterlife" this is most likely the axis
between "heaven" and "hell", if this is the "afterlife" then we would be more aware, as is human beings are very unaware as one person, BUT if a person works hard enough to widen they're brain range, then you would be a better person,
thus, if you are able to "improve" yourself then how could this be the "afterlife" you would be stuck, left to linger, and unable to change that fact.
however as human beings we can "improve" ourselfs, so we could not be in a void, we are not stationary.

If it was the afterlife, no one would be dying. The afterlife last forever. This life is temporary. Plus, Good and evil wouldn't be occurring together. It would either be all good (heaven) or all bad (hell).

What a good question!
This could be the afterlife for some other existence! We certainly don't know, because with all the religions there are, no one has ever conclusively answered:
How did we get here?
Why are we here?
And until someone does, your question goes begging for a real answer!
Good thinking--keep it up!

that is particularly no longer a miracle that "we are strolling on the earth", you ought to properly be surprised with the aid of it yet a good understanding of the technological awareness in the back of it shows it to the proper results of organic strategies. in addition, "our ability for romance" is an advanced emotion that facilitates us (and many different species) to bond as relations and cooperative social communities. on the different hand, each and every thing that all of us comprehend in physics, chemistry and neurology shows that there is not any reason to suspect that any variety of afterlife is remotely accessible.

Because there is no such thing as an "afterlife". Life is being alive...after life..there is death. Death and life are, like, ya know, so totally separate and stuff...der duh uh. Actually, I'm juss kidding but seriously...this is how it works fer reals.
You are born and become a "soul". You have so many days to be alive on this earth. 120 natural years if there are no "life interuption events" such as a Greyhound bus with your name on it, drive by shooting or you live in a war free zone somewhere on the planet..other than that you have to avoid all the "health" pitfalls that can cut your time short like smoking, injesting toxic chemicals or salt. Stuff like that..so lets say you live to be 111 years old and you die. Now if Jesus has not come back by that time...and you die..your soul (your being, person, individual self) will be buried (or you might opt for being incinerated...what's that called? Uh...umm...oh yeah cremation) After that you are pretty much non-existant. You see we each do not have our own little tiny immortal Spirit that supposedly separates from our flesh earth body and then floats around aimlessly for however long. No where in the Scriptures does it ever say that. Soul and Spirit have two different meanings and they are never used interchangably in the Bible and never together. Spirit referes to two things...the Spirit of God and "spirit" as used in refering to our "state of being"..such as emotional situation and stuff. So, essentially everyone that is dead..has been dead except a few that were resurrected when Christ died on the Cross.
Matthew 27
51And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
52And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
All through the Bible the promise has always been in the resurrection so when you die..that is your hope..if you are saved by the Blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ. Remember Passover...when the Hebrew children were instructed by Moses in the last plague to smear the blood of a young, pure, umblemished lamb over their door posts so the Angel of Death would pass over their homes? Literally that is what the Blood of Christ does for your soul. You are no longer marked for death. So, just as David was promised...God knows where every sparrow falls..
Matthew 10
28And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
29Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
30But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
32Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
You remain in the mind of God and will not be forgotten in the grave...
Isaiah 49:14-16
14But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.
15Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
16Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.
Jesus is constantly refered to as the Hand of God..the hand symbolizes work and power..all things were created by Him, for Him and through Him..including you. You are written on Him..He is the Book of Life...if your name is written there then you are good to go. If not...then as with all other things not of God you will see destruction. Not, however, eternally burning in a fiery pit of sulfer and brimstone..that is another mindoctrination taught by men. You will simply die and cease to exist from the mind or living Spirit of God. You will be burned up and consumed away. So the only afterlife there will ever be is at the resurrection. Its my hope that you have recieved Christ...He is there to recieve you and don't lean on your own understanding or imagination or any other man's idea...read the scriptures if you truely want to know. I would suggest that you start with Psalms. I know that is an unusual suggestion coming from a Gospel believing Christian but I'll explain why. David wrote as influenced by the mind of Christ. David, himself was a flawed individual who had a hard time denying himself much of anything but he had a heart for God and in being there for that purpose and as the direct decendant and linage, Jesus being born of the House of David, it was through the Psalms that we can know Christ better. David was promised and believed that promise that Jesus would deliver him from the grave. Read Psalm 16. Then start over at Psalm 1 and read through. Then read the Book of Job..then the Gospels and so on. If you haven't already. God bless you. Love in Christ, ~J~ <><
