Does anyone know what is classified as "violent crimes" and what is classified as "nonviolent crimes", or where I could get this information? (Obviously, I know that things like rape and murder are violent crimes, but I would like to know the full list of each.) I'm doing some research and need to know. Also, I don't know if it varies from state to state but I'm in South Carolina. Thanks for any help :)

In my state, violent crimes include murder, robbery, aggravated assault, rape, burglary of a residence, voluntary manslaughter, among others. Non-violent crimes are drug offenses, theft offenses, burglary of an unoccupied building, simple assault. To find out if it's the same in S. Carolina you could contact either the District Attorney's Office, the State Parole Board, or the Department of Corrections. They all need to know whether a crime is classifed violent or non-violent.
