This is a tough question to answer, because as a teacher I tend to be biased about the subjects that I teach. I happen to be a Computer Teacher, and so in this day and age of technology, I believe that learning how to use a computer the proper way is VITAL to survive and be successful, because no matter what you do in this world, at one time or another you will use a computer.

As part of my Keyboarding and Typing classes, basic English is taught, because you have to be able to proofread and correct the papers that you write, so in a sense, English is used in the way that I teach my computer classes.

If everyone knew the proper precautions to take with Internet Safety, and could navigate a computer without crashing it...the world would be a better place.

So, my answer...Computers.

depends on what you want to do later, for me English and music were the most important, but that's because I'm a music major now, for someone who goes to a tech. school or other post secondary education program that doesn't require the writing of papers, then English may not be the most important

I agree with you that English is the most useful subjet in school....
If you master reading and writing English then you can study any other subject including mathematics by borrowing or buying books on the subject and teaching yourself.

I'd say any of the languages you learn at school. I don't think English is that useful because no one I know/knew learns/learnt decent english grammar. Only analysing novels and writing pointless essays.

hmmm....

I would say English, unless of course it is Science, or maybe Math, except if it is History, or Social Studies.

I think really my answer is there is no one single most useful subject, they all need to be taught and mastered to complete a successful education.

I agree with you--maybe we need even more of it! I say we need more grammar instruction. Oh, and misuse is one word. Spelling, anyone?

Not sure you could narrow it down to one.
English, Math and Computer would be among the top.
