In this day and age where everyone seems to be out for your money one way or another, and I frankly don't trust every business person including doctor, dentists, and lawyers, if I have some kind of toothache, or gum problem, I will most certainly go, but other than that, I have bought myself a good electric toothbrush, I floss everyday, and use a good mouth wash or even peroxide occasionally to really kill germs. I have been to so many dentists in the last 5 years, that all they are interested in doing is the DEEP CLEANING as they call,it so they can make a DEEP DENT in my finances! All I really want is a dentist to just simply clean my teeth the way they use to and Ill be happy!

6 months is approximately the time when a small, often unnoticeable problem can develop into a larger problem.
For example, if you have a tiny cavity that doesn't have caries in it, good dentist will leavie it alone, but would check back on it in 6 months. In 6 months, it sill may be fine, or it may have developed caries. But the caries in this case didn't have a chance to take over the whole tooth and can be easily cleaned out and cavity filled.
I believe gum problems have about the same time scale.
If you seriously think your dentists makes you come back just to get your money, find another dentist.

It is important to go to the dentist at least twice a year to have him/her clean away plaque that we can't with regular toothbrushes. They also make sure you don't have decay going on and the oral health of your mouth so you don't grow cancer and that stuff. It's better to stop decay when it first begins than wait it out and have your whole tooth taken out. They don't tell you to go there twice a year so they can become richer.

Hi stifbisket
If you don't want to go to the dentist - then don't.
Bit of a coward are we?
Or perhaps you are one of those funny people that like pain?

Yah, I'd like to know that too.
Maybe it's to make money because they get paid for every visit.
I think once a year is enough.

even though we brush our teeth every day and keep it clean, there is microscopic residue that build up in areas that the brush cannot reach. it develops into an acid that distroyes the dentine of your teeth.
