Where do you live? California hasa zillion good, locally vinted white wines. Stay away from the chardonnays; that's where you run the biggest risk of finding "vinegar in a bottle", sometimes even if you pay a good price. Reislings are a good choice; a little on the sweet side, but pretty consistent. Read up about wines - it's pretty interesting.

I'm not sure what you'll find in a supermarket since I'm from Ontario, Canada and we can't buy wine in a supermarket but a nice white wine that I really enjoy is R.H. Phillips Toasted Head Chardonnay. It's from California so it should be available but maybe not in a supermarket.

For around a fiver you could try an Australian Chardonnay or Chardonnay/Semillon. Jacob's Creek or similar. If you don't want "acid in a wine bottle" look for ones where the tasting notes on the label or/and shelf say things like "rounded" or "smooth" or "oaked" and avoid "steely", "crisp" and so on.
Follow the instructions on the back label e.g. chill for two or three hours in your fridge. Can't really go wrong with that so enjoy it!
I've read that vinegar (e.g. in salad dressings) doesn't go well with wine.
For double that I've recently started trying out Meursaults on special occaisions and found them very good.

I've just got myself some very nice white wine called "Country Manor" at Iceland. (I'm actually drinking it as I type!) It's a box of 3 ltrs and I hadn't tried it before and for £4 I thought it was very good value.
It's not the strongest you can get as it's 7.5% but it's quite pallatable and there is a choice of Medium Sweet and Medium Dry (which is what I'm drinking),
Cheers!!

Morrison's does some really fab Bordeaux wines by Sichel - if you like your white wine sweet and fruity, that is.
There is one called Liquid Gold (small bottle -37.5cl) and another called Premiere Cotes de Bordeaux - regular 70cl. The alcohol content is 13%, just high enough to make you pleasantly mellow without getting drunk.
I love it, so does my boyfriend.

OK, heres my list of nice white wines, all available from Tesco. I like a wine over a fiver, but I buy them when they are on special offer, ie. half price to £3.99.
Kumala Zenith
Jacobs Creek Chardonnay
Blossom Hill
Hardys Crest

I would go w/any Johannesburg Riesling they are Awesome. Any of the German wines, they could have a cat on them or a sun, those are usually sweeter. Barefoot wine is good, alot of the Australian wines are good, I like alot of wines from Chile.
