That varies from State to State.

Some States it's 18 (can you imagine, by then they are on their own).

Where do you live? I would search (State) Custody Laws and see what you come up with.

In many states the law differs. Some say 12 years old others say 15 years old. If there is evidence that the child is being neglected or abused then the judge or the child's court advocate will intervene and place the child where ever the best interest lies. I would contact a local attorney in your area and ask them in general what the law is your area so you know what to do next. Break ups are very hard for everyone especially the children. Good Luck and God Bless.

I'm not sure about where you live, but in the state of Pennsylvania it's 12 years old...or at least it used to be. Contact a lawyer I'm sure they could help.
