My daughter has started to run a high fever between 101.6 to 103.7... with no other symptoms... She doesn't complain of her ears hurting (she is prone to ear infections) and says it doesn't hurt to pee (UTI) , she did just have a lose tooth pulled by the dentist , that had the adult tooth growing in behind it already... and has 2 small ulcers inside her bottom lip.. I have no clue as to what it is.. and since it is the weekend my dr is not in to call but if her fever gets high enough I will take her to the ER. I am just clueless.. I have tried looking on the net for help too... any thoughts on what it may be ?? Thank you!

I forgot to add that she cannot take Tylenol, only because it wires her and she bounces off walls and she will not sleep for the next 24 hours... it's a reaction to it.

That fever is too high to mess around with. If it persists for longer than 24 hrs. she needs medical attention. Sounds like an infection of some sort, possibly an abcess is forming from her tooth being pulled? Watch closely for redness or facial swelling near the pulled tooth. A mother's intuition is your guide at this point. If you are feeling a strong urge to take her to the ER, do so. Better safe than sorry. Is the dentist who pulled her tooth on call? A Dr. always has someone to answer emergency calls even when they are not in the office. Usually you will get the Dr.'s answering service when you call the office after hours and they will page him and he will call you at home and let you know if you need to take her to the ER or not. Good luck, I hope she feels better and let us know how it turns out!

You may want to take her to a 24 hour care center or the ER. There could be an infection from the removal of the tooth that she had. Remember that a fever shows that your body is FIGHTING off an infection. Be glad that it is doing that. However, that does not mean that you shouldn't be concerned. Does your dr's office have a dr that is on call? I would try that and see what they say. If you are still concerned then I would take her in somewhere to get it checked out.

My sister used to Have a lot of temperature when she was little and the doctors always tell us to put ice in a towel in her neck all the time and give her a cold bath until the fever goes down.
Try that and if the temperature goes up again go to ER...fever is a symptom that there´s something wrong somewhere..

Oh, this is hard, it happened with my kids. Alternate her with Motrin and Tylenol. First give Motrin, then about 4 hours later give Tylenol. Then give Motrin according to it's dosage instructions (I think it's every 6 hours). It gets confusing, I usually have to write it down on paper. Meanwhile get her to drink her fluids - water is best but also juice will be ok, or Gatorade or Propel flavored waters, whatever is mostly water and she will drink. I used this combo on my son when he was <1 year old so it should be tolerable for a child who is 5 years old. Tepid baths and a damp washcloth on the head help too. The Motrin.Tylenol combo is usually a sure thing. Disclaimer: I am not a doctor or medical professional! I was advised to do this Motrin-Tylenol thing by my pediatrician. Generic brands are also ok. Good luck.

Fevers are a normal part of a child's defense system.
Fever is not necessarily harmful, nor is it evidence of an illness.
You should be most concerned with changes in eating or sleeping habits, coughing, pain, or other marked changes in a child’s behavior. Normal fever symptoms include rapid breathing and heart rate, glossy eyes, and flushed skin.

could be a viral infection that is causing her to have a fever instead of other symptoms. Draw her a luke warm bath and leave her in it until the water gets cold to your touch. Not her touch cause it will automatically feel cold to her as she does have a fever. Good Luck.

You need to take your child to the ER regardless of how high her temp is. If she is running a fever then take her to the hospital so you can figure out what is wrong so she can get treatment. This Yahoo...not a medical center or clinic. She needs to be seen by a doctor...so take her to the ER.

I know that the fever is worrying, but please keep in mind that a fever is the bodies natural defense to protect it!
Sounds like she may have an inflammation in the gums that her body is fighting. Don't stress too much about it...just keep an eye on it, and give her Motrin as directed on the label.
Good luck :-)
