The Bible is not the only thing keeping humanity alive, dude.

Things that keep humanity alive include air, water, food, and that sort of thing.

What in God's name are you talking about?

The Bible or any other religious scriptures has given us the basis for morality. Before the advent of organized religions, from which the most of the Bible orginated, we lived like animals, because that is basically what we are, animals. Most people forget this one little aspect. Most animals seem to not have a sense of right and wrong. Taking just the one fact that some animals eat thier young. Survival is the only objective within most species. Some animals fight to the death and are rewarded by taking control of a herd and having the status that belongs with it. We as a species, decided long ago that this was wrong. For that one fact, someone decided to write this down and make it a "law or commandment" for a long ago tribe to follow. Thus becoming basis for a right or wrong morality as we know it today. The knowledge of right and wrong is most basic primary moral that has been defined by the Bible. The very first book of the Bible, Genisis, God, made it wrong to pick the apple from the tree. With a wrong deed, consequences become the punishment for a wrong deed and so on. Murder was the very first items addressed after this concept was put forth. So many right and wrongs were defined within this scripture text, that it became a world wide standard that we live by today. The Bible has given us a set of basic guidelines, stories and parables to apply to our daily lives and to some guide thier entire lifetime. Every religion has it own "bible" in some form or another. Some text vary from one idleogy to another. However all the scriptures have one basic common denominator. This can be refered to and commonly applied as a "higher power"

So with all that said, Yes, The Bible has aided in keeping humanity alive. However, it has never kept us from killing each other. So many wars have been fought and people killed over the centuries because of different views and conceptions of religious scriptures. Some of these wars not only threw the "Bible" out the door, but has been used as justification for moral cleansing, which in essence is just plain murder with approval from the "church". Another point to consider here would be that today's society, Murder is considered wrong and is punished. But yet we justify the death penalty with the parable, an eye for an eye.

As far as a endless cycle, I don't agree with the term of cycle which describes a movement of repeating events. There was a beginning and there will be an end. Be it the End of Times as described in the Bible or the fact that we eventually will destroy ourselves via our environment, which to some has already begun.
Or an possible end when our Sun blows up in a billion years. Who knows what or when will happen, the hard fact is no one has this knowledge. Perhaps God will share this with us one day.

Peace!

Because death came thruogh sin, to disobey god. It was the choice of mankind. But Christ is the king in control of all things. The bible does not teach the end of the world, but rather Christ ruling over all things at the time of his choosing. It has meaning now, but will be seen when Jesus Christ returns to rule.
