Donuts belong to the bread food group. They are carbs. Carbs go straight to fat if you don't burn off the immediate energy they provide. (Plus the sugar on them. But that's a separate question, if you ask me.) Good luck with that.

Everyone on here is right! Carbs, sweets, junk food! Even the cake ones are a no no and will give you just added calories with no nutritional value. Nothing good is in them, just sugar, get off the donut wagon! (Now aren't you glad you asked?lol)

The USDA no longer uses a "food groups" model. They now use the "food pyramid". If you go to http://www.mypyramid.gov
you can make a personalized food pyramid with a description of what you should eat and how many calories are recommended for your sex, age and activity level. The short answer is according to the new food pyramid, doughnuts fall into "oils and discretionary calories".
