Does it bring more in or force more away?

Religion is a strange topic to discuss as MAN has changed it to favour himself.

The Christen used it to colonize
The Muslims are using it in an extreme manner
The Jews are violating other countries( exactly what they did not like in the 40s)

I think with the way most people are abusing it, it is driving people away and not bringing people together as the whole idea of religion is LOVE for one another and the appreciation of our CREATOR.

I think christians have to work out their own walk with the Lord and we're all in different places. Some just beginning, some have been at it a long time. Some put more time and effort into getting close to God than others. You will find christians who are closer to God and have more wisdom and understanding who can communicate with a non christian in a way that doesn't send them running and screaming away. Then there are those others who really can run people off. So I really don't know if we can say religion does the one thing or the other, but I think we can say that people certainly can. There is a time and a season to say things and a way to approach people.

Irrelevant: we don't have an operating definition for "Drive people away from god"

If you mean does the existence of religion cause less people to believe in god, the answer is a clear no. If you mean does the existence of religion cause less people to believe in the one true god, then the answer is still no, as such a belief would still be a religion.

It's not religion that drives people away from God. People who attempt to practice a religion can drive people away from God. Some religious people get in your face, act holier than thou and tell you that you're going to hell unless your strictly follow their certain beliefs and practices. They sometimes follow these beliefs and practices blindly without any knowledge behind it or ability to apply it correctly. They don't exhibit any kindness, forgiveness, respect, love and etc. They supposedly reflect God. If they reflect God, then why would any sinner want to run to God?
Christians are guilty of doing this, but so are other religious groups.

Yes. It drives people away. God is personal to everyone. No-one knows what anybody else's experiences of God are and it is none of their business. Organized religion has done more to ruin God's reputation that the Devil ever could.

It defenetly drives people away from god. People a brainwashed into thinking god is this big angry vengeful being who will send you to hell if you do one thing wrong. Religion is responsible for most of the pain and anguish in the world.

It could if it's just a mere "religion". Why should people continue believing in a God if they'll never know him? If you can get to really know God, that's better than a religion, it's a relationship.

It depends on the religion your studying. Why don't you checkout the Bible study course, at http://www.gnmagazine.org/litreq/bsc.htm , and the other free literature at this site. They have a more accurate understanding of God and the Bible then most religions. They don't have perfect knowledge yet but they're an excellent place to start a serious Bible study.

it depends on how it is expressed people who are driven on religion usually do because they are not really expressing the truth others just think they are crazy and that makes them say that they don't want a part of that and it makes them turn away from a great GOD
