Does anyone see a correlation between Genesis 3:15 and Jacob holding onto Esau's heel when the twins were being born? I know that most Chriatian ministers claim that Genesis 3:15 is about Jesus and Satan. Just wondering what your views were. Thanks.

Yes there is a correlation. You can see it even in Jesus day when He told the Pharisee's that their father was not God

John 8:47
He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

The same Hebrew word for "heel" is used in both passages.

However, the meanings of the two passages seem dissimilar to me.

Jacob, whose name means "trickster" or "deceiver" becomes the patriarch Israel and at the close of the story Esau forgives him for the treachery he committed against him, cheating Esau out of his inheritance. So, at the end we have a reconciliation.

The Genesis 3 passage you mention is generally regarded as an ongoing curse, therefore no resolution. While some do hold the theory that this passage is about Jesus and Satan, not everyone takes this approach.

Both passages do have a variety number of interpretations, however. One idea that I have seen mentioned in regard to both of them is that they are allegories that represent the transitions between hunter-gather societies and agricultural-based systems.

I think Jacob and Esau's rivalry is one off the many negative consequences brought about by the curse described in Genesis 3. I'm not sure that the heal reference refers to the twins specifically, but I do see some correlation.

That's a good question. I never thought about it before.

Not in my opinion at all. The Story about Jacob and Esau is a human parable. Esau received the blessing because he was the oldest son. However, Jacob was more blessed in the end because he wanted the blessing so badly that he hung on to Esau's heel and later tricked his father. The story means that God blesses most those who ask and who truly want it, rather than those who appear to be blessed with an easy life through some accident of fate.
