Yeah. I've heard that before.
A Coke could make you smile. It all depends on what you put in it.

It was an advertising slogan in the 70s, where peace and love reigned. It was part of their plan to have everyone with a Coke in their hand and a smile on their face so that when other people saw them, they would think "Wow! That person has a smile on their face! I wonder why! Maybe it's because they have a Coke in their hand! I should get a Coke too!" The gimmicks people come up with just to sell some carbonated sugar water.

The person offering you a Coke,is also providing the smile. Thus-"have a Coke and a smile".

Probably a cocaine addict came up with that one. Too much Coke will rot your teeth, so have a coke and have a nasty smile, that is what it should be.
