I'm on celexa which is apparently very similar. It worked at first for me but i had to gradually increase my dosage, and im now on 40mg. The only side effects i had when i started was i lost my appetite, which was actually a good thing cause i eat too much.

I take 10mg.and it has been really helpful. Definitely take it in the morning. I took it at night at first and had bad dreams, insomnia, and was very sleepy during the day. I had two problems from it. The first was that it made me a little manic with the credit cards and money. I went shopping like crazy until I realized I had lost all my money anxiety! I had to cut up my credit card and give the other to my husband. So be careful. The other was a mild loss of appetite. I still eat, but I have to remind myself sometimes or I'll forget to eat lunch.
Even with these effects, it was soooo worth it. I have never felt better!
By the way, my sister in law takes it and likes it, and has no negative effects.

Lexapro is quickly becoming one the favorite drugs for doctors to prescribe for depression and anxiety because it does not have all of the nasty side effects that the other SSRIs and tricyclics have, it is relatively safe, and people are reacting well to it. The side effects that it does have are usually bearable and go away. Patients have told me that during the first week they felt sort of shaky and had some "brain fog" but that after that, they felt great.

Morning is the time to take it. Lexapro did not work for me, but I had no ill effects from it. I think the only thing you can do is try it for a while. If you don't get ANY improvement in two weeks, please check back with your doctor. Don't stop trying, there are many, many medications you can try.

Good luck with getting over your depression.

I've been on 10mg for a couple of months and it's helped me a lot. I've only seen one bad thing on here from it. Take it in the morning, the day is when you need to feel better. Good luck!
