I just had highlights done recently, and I love the honey blonde color. It's really cute, it's like the golden blonde, but softer. So I think it would look cute in dirty blonde hair.

The best thing to do is dimensional coloring. Can't decide exactly one color, this highlighting technique may be a little pricy. Around $90 or so, but the results look great. Get a few different shades of blonde or caramel in your hair and it'll look "just out of the salon."

Depends on what you want to emphasize. the blonde or the brown.
If the blonde get a really light color and a medium blonde color, and streak it with both. it makes it look more natural.
If you want to emphasize the brown, use a light warm brown. Separate the hair into 2 sections, top and bottom from mid ear to mid ear. On section below mid ear color the whole thing. On top streak liberally. This will give you a reverse frost effect.

To get top-notch highlights go to a hairstylist because she will tell you what color will look best but in my opinion, it's much cheaper to just buy your own box and have someone highlight your hair for you. I think a blonde color slightly lighter than what you have now would look nice. Hope this helps! :)

If you would like to get lowlights, I recommand you to do it very dark because the color will fade with the shampoo, so if you do it too light like honey or caramel, it doesn't stay for a long time. It's up to you, it depends what you want. And lowlights does not damage the hair. But if you're looking more for highlights, it damage the hair cause you have no choice to do it with bleach, but it also give more body and volume.

Go to a stylist, and look at different hair swatches, because it's best if it's done professionally. My sister has dirty blond hair and she gets light, honeyed blond highlights. It looks great. That's what I'd suggest.

I have dirty blond hair myself and it can really look "dumb" sometimes - no shine, it can get greasy really fast. But, I solved my problem with two kinds of highlights: one highlight colour is lighter than my natural color, and the other one is light-brown ("honey colour.") I told my hairdresser to mixed them up, she didn't put those highlights evenly on my hair, they are really thin and mixed up, so it looks really good. You should try it, definetely!

I had to totally dye my hair because I had dirty blonde hair with no depth or shine (it was clean, but very dull). I am now a red head and have fantastic color.
