In many of the cultures that are represented in the Bible, women are considered the property of men. However, this in no way discribes God's ideal. Rather, God did say that he made the woman for the man (Genesis 2:18, 1 Corinthians 11:9).

It also says:
* a husband and wife are one flesh (Genesis 2:24)
* the husband is the head of the wife (Ephesians 5:23)
* that a wife should submit to her husband (Ephesians 5:22, Colossians 3:18)

But this in no way justifies an abusive or dictitorial husband; nor does it allow for a husband to treat his wife as if she were property. Notice also how Paul suggest a husband or wife abstain from sexual intercourse for a time to devote themselves to prayer and fasting:

"Do not deprive one another EXCEPT WITH CONSENT for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer..." (1 Corinthians 7:5)

Notice that the husband ideally should not have a "lay-down-the-law" attitude, but he should consult with his wife before setting the course of action that they will take.

And Paul also writes:
"So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church." (Ephesians 5:28-29)

No.I actually says that men and woman are to Love one another as equals. However women are not to be the final authority over men.Men are to love women as Christ LOVES the church.Which is not at all the way most people take Ephesians 5:22.

Yes and no.

What I mean by this, is that this is MEANT FOR CHRISTIAN COUPLES ONLY! In it (the Bible), "God is considered the Head of the Christ, the Christ is considered the Head of the Man, and the Man is considered the Head of the Wife (or family)." However, outside of a Christian relationship, its another story, because God and Christ are "no longer part of the relationship" and therefore the MAN is no longer treating the wife as a "christian husband should."

Also, Christ treats his "bride" the congregation with loving care and even died for her, while following Christs example, a loving husband should be considered to do the same for his "bride." So, again in this context, we see in the New Testament, that once again, its in the area of Christian love and not being "unevenly yoked with an unbeliever." If you are married to an unbeliever, you should follow your husbands lead as far as you possibly can "in good conscience." However, realize that God's law always "supersede's" mans law, even in area's of marriage. Therefore, follow and obey your husband unless it contradicts God's law. THEN, do NOT listen. Go to your Elders and find a solution or leave him if he becomes irrational. Its one thing to please your husband. Its another to give up your soul for him.

Culturally it appears to be true. The true biblical understanding of a women is a partner, a helpmate, an equal. When are to respect their husbands, husbands are to love their wives.
If a husband abuses his wife, it would not be love, nor could a woman respect that. By no fault of her own.

There may be places in the bible where it mentions this is a fact of a certain culture but it does not endorse the practice. Same thing with slavery, it deals with the reality but doesn't say it is a Good thing.

The man is the head of the household. God gave Eve to Adam as a helper, not as a slave.
Women are to be respectful to their husbands and the man is to have final say unless it's contrary to God.
Men are to love their wives as Christ loves the church, which He went as far as to die for.
So, women are not men's property, but both are to play their seperate roles to achieve harmony with God and one another.

No Islam says that. The man is put as head of the house and instructed to love his wife as himself. Both become one flesh when they marry, so the wife is as much owner of the husband as he is of her.. Like in any group, someone has to be in charge, and that is the husband, but it is not a dictatorship. Each have different gifts and talents and it is a family unit..

Islam says that a woman is worth 1/2 of a man or equal to a horse.Read the koran/

No, but it says that the woman's body is not her own (but her husbands) and the mans body is not his own ( the wife's). This is in the context of marriage and sex. The Israelites could take female slaves. Gog said that the woman would serve the man (submitted to him) but not as a slave.
Jesus told the men to love their wife's as Jesus loves the church.
