Have your kids walk to school, soccer practice, dance and all that other junk. Every day there's a line of cars, vans, and suv's in front of the school. I know you don't live that far away. Make them walk and you'll save big on gas and there won't be as many fat little kids all over the place. Come on soccer moms...Who's with me?

Have you ever thought that some of those people are coming straight from work. Perhaps those people are picking up their kids dropping them off at the sitter and then going to work. In my area kids are not to walk alone until they are in 2nd grade. Some of us can do this some of us can't. Some of us have such little time to get things done that we feel the need to drive. For us school lets out at 4:10pm then we still have to cook dinner, do homework and go to soccer practice. Yeah it probably only saves us 5 or 10 min. but every little bit of time we can save sure helps out.

Perhaps the oil componys could lower their prices sense the money they are making is at breaking highs. It's true I read it in the paper all the time.

By the way my kid is not fat. He's quite skinny and very active. It probably helps that he doesn't veg out in front of the t.v. and vidio games. I don't think we can just blame parents driving their kids to school, soccer practice and dances for the reason they are getting fat.

sure if you live within a few miles of the school that works. Around me most the people that live in the same town as the school walk to school anyway. If you live in the next town over walking 10 miles down a busy round each way does not seem like a good plan for kids.

Well if the schools dont bus your kids that means you live less than 3 miles from the school. So in theory yes. But...ever ask a kindergartner, 1st grader, 2nd grader to walk that far and not get lost? Then take in to consideration the busy traffic and children stalkers out there. Then what about the working mothers and fathers who have their children in daycares....and daycare vans come and pick them up.

So if the child is old enough to not have a sitter...yes they can walk, providing you live in a safe enough area. Al ways keep our children safe.

not probable. Air balloons require gas too, to ability the hearth that keeps them up. yet i don't wanna make an effort to choose how much less gas they take than vehicles, plus you will not be able to rather administration the place an air balloon is going, and it rather is too a lot of a soreness to do it. I somewhat have, regardless of if, theory approximately taking the bus/driving a bike to save on gas.

K- a prevous answer said, "Now that's un-American"... why? What's un-American about being smart with your money? What's un-American about encouraging your children to be healty?

I say GO FOR IT, SISTER!!

I had to walk almost a mile to school (grade school) every day. I never got a ride. I am now 30 yrs old, 5'3", 125 pounds, looking hot!

I also walked to the bus stop when I got to middle school (we lived a little over 3 miles away from the school, so we qualified for free busing).... WOW- no wonder it took me all afternoon to walk home that one time I missed the bus-- 3 miles!!

I love it. I already do that. The kids are starting to complain though. The wife says it's only because we live 9 miles from the school. One thing about it...They're not fat.

Thankfully that's one lesson I did learn from my mom. I told my kid that if he had to join a sport or other group that he couldn't walk or bike to, then we'd have to evaluate how important it was for him to join.
Because I live in an area were most kids team sports and such are usually within walking, biking distance this was not that hard to do.

Riding your bike places is a great way to save gas. Not only does it save gas, but it's a workout as well. Additionally, the Chinese and Japanese wouldn't be doing it so much if they didn't think it a good idea.

I agree with you. We better walk or use the bus or Metro. Also we must try to use the car 3 times a week.
