It's possible to sleep with one's eyes open. I know people who have normal eyelids who do it; it's creepy as hell.
It's also possible to be born without eyelids, though it is extremely rare, and the accompanying problems are much more severe than the inability to sleep correctly.

Nobody in their right mind would have their eyelids removed. And if someone was born without them, they'd get some artifial eyelids made out of fat from another bodypart. Anyways, eyelids protect our eyeballs from catching dust in them. If we didn't have eyelids our eyes would get covered in dust get infected or dry up with the blowing air and dry up.

I'm sure there are people born with this type of problem but I saw a woman on TV who had plastic surgery and it had messed up her eyelids so they wouldn't close. She wore glasses to bed like the kind that you wear in a tanning booth.

some people sleep with their eyes open. When you fall asleep, you do not "see". If you were to be asleep, and somebody came up and opened your eye (and lets say the act of opening your eye did not wake you) you would not see them. People without eyelids would have medical issues, but sleep would not be one. Maybe falling asleep, and this would be where dark glasses, dark room comes into play.

If one had their eyelids removed, they could not have eyes without them. They would have to be removed, as well. Then they would not have to worry about closing them. :)

there have been people that have been born lacking eyelids. the result varies. some are able to sleep without any aid. others, however, need some blindfolds to sleep. plus they constantly are putting eyedrops in their eyes.
