I am proud, very proud to be a muslim, that does not mean that I am am a suicide bomber, a killer, or someone who agrees with all these wars. What right does anyone have to talk about my religion, Islam in such a heartless manor? without knowing all the facts, my religion is sacred to me as yours is!! and has taught me peace and respect!!

Yes, Please people......give other religions some respect. Muslim does not mean terrorist, it is just these peoples belief and way of life. Christians have bad people killing in the name of Christianity, does that make you a mass murderer?? I think not. I respect ALL religions! I am just sorry some people are so short sided that they pick on other religions without trying to understand them. I am Pagan, I do NOT eat children or worship your Satan. All Muslims are NOT terrorist..... Have some respect people!
I am proud that you embrace your religion. I hope that someday this world changes and we are all accepted as humans and not labeled by other peoples bad deeds.

I have Muslim Friends. They know I am "Pagan". They dont seem to mind. They know I am Scottish as well and understand how we Scots think/feel about other peoples. I am also an ex minister ex of my own choosing I may add. Funny thing is. When I gave up the Craft to and go Christian the Muslims said nowt, they didnt reckon Jesus was the be all and end all of things, "just" that He was a rather good Prophet, it was the bloody CHRISTIANS who decided I was filth and needed burned coz it seemed that there was no way an ex witch could possibly be saved and become Christian never mind "take the Cloth" as it were. I left the ministry some 9 years later coz of the stupid and rife bigotry in the "Church" in the UK, guess what? I was STILL treated like filth by "Christians". I guess when there are those things called humans involved we will always get a problem developing. There will always be a tiny weeny "big" man trying to empire build with a poxy life expectancy of a miserable 80 odd years if he or she is really lucky. I guess, like the Bible, parts of the Quaran are taken out of context and used by idiots for self gain. It does say that Christians are to be respected after all doesnt it? I forget the exact wording BUT, it also says to have a go at those who belittle Islam and Allah. I just bet there are passages above and below those lines that clearly state what is meant.

The image we get is that you all hate the other religions, while this obviously is not true of most of you there are the ones that do think this and they go about showing it by killing hundreds of people.
There also seems to be very few of you that actually do protest against the wars and killings, publicly at least.
There are also many rules about islam that are understood and acceptable in islamic countries but when you live in other countries such as england, these rules may seem to the rest of us to be prehaps unfair, offensive or unsocialble.
Just an example - you may consider it ok for a woman to wear the full face and body covering clothing (don't know its name sorry) but to an english man this can seem quite rude, as in why can't we see your face... are we not good enough to look at you.... how do we know who you are, we don't even know what you look like?
This is ofcourse required by your religion and you would feel just as offended if required to remove such clothing.
Prehaps english people in schools need to be taught more about islam so they can understand it better?
When I was at school a few years back I remember they had a seperate class for the islamic people when it came to religious education, they were taught about islam and we were taught about jews/christians etc.
Maybe english should be taught to understand the koran aswell as the bible?

Well job hunter I think your are correct in what you say. Maybe Islam should be more open and people of other Religions be able to learn and understand. No one in their right mind thinks all Muslims are terrorists and killers. You are right the Koran teaches love and respect and is a peaceful teaching. The problem is it is Muslims who were responsible for 9/11 and 7/7. Would it not be better to air any grievance in the open for general discussion than behind closed doors in some Mosques. The deaths in Iraq a war I did not agree with and now in Lebanon must stop. All peoples must consider the innocents of war, and the Muslims must control the suicide bombers within their mist. I wish you peace.

Okay, so people are dissing your religion, either right or they are wrong. But then again that places you in the same spot. Either your religion is right or wrong. Correct? Most everybodies religion is either the only way or it is the figment of your imagination.
Some questions to ask your self.
1 Does it matter what someone says to you about your religion? and Why?
2 Is it that your religion is more imporant than your God?
3 Is your God so weak that he will let people hurl insult and not forgive them?
4 What is my religion teaching me?
5 What good is my religion?
6 Does my religion separate me from life, or give me it more fully?
7 Is your religion strong enough to stand on judgement day?
Just some food for thought.
I don't know everything about your religion so I am not judging it but, do you know everything about it?
How did it start?
When?
Is only one person so close to God that he is the only one that God would entrust to tell the world about him?
If your God is truely the one and only then why did he let his holy book get corrupted in the first place?
Is he not holy and supreme enough to keep his holy book infallible from the begining?

Living in the Detroit area where we have a large Middle Eastern population. The culture people don't understand. Islam has been hijacked by extremists and the acts they do gives people the wrong view about Islam. Some people cant separate the violence from the religion. Sadly this hate on Islam will continue based on recent events.

I agree, well said.
I personally am agnostic, and don't like religion much, so you and I would naturally be in opposition on this topic.
However, I am aware that the (majority of) things that people say about Islam are not true at all.
Oh, I have no problem with challenging religion, but people should make sure that they know enough about what they're talking about before they argue against something.
I know only a bit about Islam, so I don't tend to get into debates about it.
I know a lot about christianity (more than most christians), so I debate what I know.
.....
now if we could only get the uninformed to stop spouting lies and ignorant half truths about 2 things on this board: (1) Islam and (2) evolution.
People, if you're going to dismiss something, you should LEARN about it FIRST.

PS: Mr.Mister, that came pretty damn close to being a personal and physical threat. Don't be an ***hole.

Islam is not the problem. What concerns people is the way that Muslims are being manipulated by cynical fascists in the name of Islam. One of the most awful perversions of human minds is to make people value their lives so little that they throw them away in such a negative fashion.
You are not a suicide bomber. you sound like a sensible person to me. This is never about religeon. It is about abuse of power. You have every right to be proud to be a Muslim.

The same right that other "proclaimed" muslims use to diss other religions (Judaism and Christianity being the biggest). Everyone has the right to believe and say what they want. Everyone has the right to be an uneducated and unthinking bigot and to shove their foot into their mouths.
In America, it's the "right to free speach". In some countries it has a different name, and in some countries it will get you arrested or worse.
But just because the morons have the right to say it, doesn't mean that you or I owe it to them to stay and listen. We have (in most countries) the right to go elsewhere, order them off of our property, enter into debate with the hoped intention of educating them and changing their minds, etc.
Since when have we insisted that those who speak on ANY matter have all the facts?

Yes I feel sorry for muslims but unfortunately the British people are associating the word "muslim" with "terrorism" and I sympathise with you. I'm not religious but we all need to work together as a nation from whatever race or religion to get rid of the evil extremists who are so against our country and what we believe in and what my grandfather fought so hard for in the war. Freedom.

i believe that islam has been hijacked for years by extremists who take portions of the quran relevant in 600 AD and enforce that on the populations of countries who have not left the dark ages. This gives them a platform and power. This form of islam is the source for terrorism, suicide bombers etc. Unfortunately this is tarring islam with the same brush. Many muslims' loyalties are to their religion first and foremost, and to the countries that have taken them in second. I do not see moderate Muslims taking to the streets to issue fatwas or otherwise condemn the actions of these terrorist extremists, but we all saw the extremists take out fatwas on an author who upset their delicate sensibilities. Young British muslims are being brainwashed by these Islamic nutters who come to our shores to propagate hate. I do not see them being dragged out the mosques by the muslim community and given a good kicking. All brothers of the faith, eh? Islam has a very bad name right now, and until muslims are willing to dissociate themselves from this extremism, then it will continue in its disrepute. It is a faith that requires absolute obedience to Gods (Allah pbuh) word as revealed by Mohammad, and if those who are in positions of Islamic authority interpret these ancient words of killing the heathens to mean bombing the west, then Islam will lose friends quicker than a leper with fleas. And those who put this faith before country and countrymen, especially countries that have offered them a new life away from the shackles of oppression, are misguided. Render unto Caesar what is Caesar, and render unto God what is Gods. If I visited a Muslim country I would be sure and respect their laws and customs and not bring attention to myself. Those states would quite rightly not tolerate my brazen disregard and offence.
It is unfortunate that a religion whose core message is no different to the other three Abrahamic faiths has such a tarnish. But those who are afraid of it and therefore disrespect it are only trying to protect themselves from what they perceive as a threat to their freedoms and their lives.
I speak my mind and wish that Islam had a better reputation.
