It's generally accepted that men cheat more than women. In fact it seems to be the established norm in most societies. As a man like many others, I constantly get to put up with this accusation when I don't behave in this way. My reasoning however, is that in heterosexual relations cheating men will do that with other women. By logic the numbers should be equal. On this basis I have thus a though time accepting the conventional accusation that men cheat more than women.
Do you have a better explanation?

I am not so sure that the numbers game gives a reliable answer.
It could be, for example, that a minority of promiscuous women have sex with a lot of men or, that the women they cheat with are not in relationships themselves. I don't like the word 'cheat' anyway used in this context, it makes it sound like a game. If we are talking purely about sex, then it is hardly surprising that men 'cheat' more than women, because they are designed to do just that, nature has given them a stronger sexual appetite to go spread their seed. Women are more likely to change partners because something is wrong with the emotional side of the relationship, ie. not related to sex.

Women have invented the concept of 'cheating' to stop men doing what they are driven to do by nature. However, I think that your argument has some validity, because I am sure that there are more cheating females than we realise. They are better at covering it up and, because they are not as sexually driven as men, they have less excuse for their behaviour.

Cheating implies being in an established relationship and there are many many women who are not.

The numbers are getting closer though as to who cheats more, men or women. It isn't just the boss with his secretarty anymore.

I believe that women want just as much variety as men and perhaps we need to rethink this whole *you belong to me* crap. I don't know why we kept that in the first place as no one can own anyone else's body or feelings.

Men still comprise the most in extra affairs but that can be due to the fact that they still hold more of the jobs that require travel. Break those numbers down even further to stay in your own town jobs and I would bet the women come out with a slightly higher score.

Monogamy makes less sense sexually to women, that is to do with orgasms and time of the month.

In our evolution, the more dominant males restricted others' sexual activities and that may be cruel, but it 'weeded out' the weakest, leading to stronger groups. This idea is known as Natural Selection. Females, mated with all interested males. . . . . so the theory of males = cheats has no natural grounds. Women in the UK are brought up to believe men are silly and that men are here to be manipulated. Young men are too rarely brought into reality, especially that of what women act like and will not hide their own non-monogamous feelings. Women also live for reputation. They don't feel bad about lying to men and are constantly pursuaded that they are more important than men. There is also a huge wave of male grovellers, life-long, that will sacrifice reputation to get women.
So - the truth is far from the reputations, and you won't get a realistic result to a survey.

studies have show mne still cheat more than women, but that gap is rapidly closing, the other partners in the cheating aspect may not know they are cheating or may be single, and thus it will not equal out as man y femals cheaters as men. one reason for the rise in females cheating has been the rise in there social economic status and the view that is it's been quiet accepted if not normal for women to do as the men now do ( witness the rise in females killing men ), no longer are finacial and social ties bound that a women had to put up with a man's cheating, today she has options and the willingness to use them, not even STD like AIDs have slowed down the rate much, and since divorce is so common now a days it no more tramtic when a women does cheat, if anything some will say ( as they do for men ) that it's even justifiable if not excuseable

It is generally accepted that men cheat more than women because men are ruled by their body's urges and women by their hearts.
That having been said there are always exceptions to all generalisations. In some cultures cheating is considered almost the norm for men but in others it is a big taboo.

Hmmm thats a hard one. Because the man needs someone to cheat with! So does that mean that exactly the same number of men cheat as women? Or do men only cheat with single women?
Sorry now I've asked a question! Dammit!

The taken men may be cheating with women that are not in relationships and therefore there is a possibility for more men to cheat than women. I don't know if they cheat more or less. A cheat is a cheat I don't' think that gender is the issue.

Yeah I'd say that guys just like to brag about it more, women seem to be good at covering it up, however I believe that cheating in any form s really wrong and you can't be happy with what you have got if you do it or even think about doing it.

ummmm i think men cheat on women more because of their instinct which is pounce on any women that's got **** and an *** the poor darlings have no idea about relationships they all cheat and some women love the idea of an attached man which makes them worse than the guy so i think we should hang all the tarts out there that prey on attached guys and as for the guys well i have yet to meet one that hasn't cheated so maybe we should re educate them on being faithfull if that doesn't help the shoot um all just save some sperm for future use

I like your logic, mainly because it's the same as mine !!! I think women just lie about it and men like to brag. Either that or there are a very small number of unfaithfull women out there who have sex with a large number of men.
