She should have a check-up at the doctors first, to determine if she has any medical problems which can be affecting her weight. If the doctor thinks that she is overweight, he can help you come up with a plan for her to be more active and eat more healthily in order to help her lose weight and become more healthy. You did not mention your daughters age. Some pre-teens and young teens will gain some weight before they have a big growth spurt. Do not nag your daughter about this, she can only safely lose a couple of pounds per week in order for her to keep it off. I am sure that it took her a lot longer than 3 weeks to put the weight on, so it will not come off in that amount of time. Good luck to you and your daughter.

My daughter had the same problem. The best thing to do to help her is to help yourself. Keep soda, cookies and candy out of the house. Dont even buy them. Only keep enought food in the house for a few days. I put all my food (even the canned foods and pasta) in the fridge. Than we started a long process of learning better eating habbits. Snacks were carrots. If she hates breakfeast, feed her lunch for breakfeast, like a sandwich and a glass of milk. The goal is not to make her lose weight. The goal is to keep her at the same weight as she grows and gets taller. My daughter went from 5' and 135 lbs to 5'6" and 135. She looks great and now has eating habbits that will last her well into adulthood. To bad I cant say the same thing for my 5'3" 240lbs ex wife...

You have to look longer term than just going back to school. And she has to want to lose weight, not you wanting to do it for her!

Have her focus on being active. There has to be some kind of activity that she'll want to do - swimming, bike riding, rollerblading, ice hockey - whatever she wants to try, help her by enrolling her in lessons/taking her swimming/going for a walk with her etc.

Encourage her to eat more healthful foods. Make sure she eats a good breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with snacks twice a day. Snacks should be nuts, fruit, string cheese, yogurt, veggies etc., no chips, candies or chocolate bars etc. Make sure dinner is a lean protein (chicken, fish, tofu, beef, beans etc), a good carb (baked sweet potato, baked potato, whole grain bread/pasta/rice), and lots of veggies and fruits.

Every one needs healthy fats, so make sure you cook using extra virgin olive oil, and have peanut butter on toast, and fish at least once a week.

Watch the calories she drinks - cut the juice, chocolate milk and pop, and replace it with home made iced tea (watch the sugar), water, crystal light, plain milk with meals etc.

Put everyone in the house on the same regular activity/healthful eating plan, and it'll fall right into place, making everyone healthier!

hi
This plan proved safe and healthy so here goes,
If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.

Why are you encouraging her to rush to lose weight in a set time? That's what makes people fail at weight loss.

You need to take her to a pediatrician and get professional advice, because dieting at a young age can be tricky. Basically, though, she just needs to eat less and exericse more.

No pop, have her drink a lot of water, No junk food, more fruits and vegetables and also 2 or 3 servings of dairy and more lean meats, and running lots of running.

exercise and eat less...... losing weight however is a slow process when done correctly (you should only lose 1-2 pounds a week)

How about healthy food and exercise. Seems an easy enough choice.
