The deal with HDTV is that if you are getting into "large" sets and 42" qualifies then you will want a srceen capable of displaying the Higher Pixel count of HDTV. If the television you got has the same number of pixels as a smaller say 25" screen the new picture will look grainy. probably what happened though is that you got a TV that is capable of displaying higher resolutions but it lacks the HD tuner, that is it is incapable of recieving the information that allows you to see the HD. If this is the case you will also have to purchase a HDtuner which can run you another few hundred dollars.

It would help if you had posted the model number of your TV. Then we could verify if it really is or is not an HDTV. Look at the manual for the set and find the specifications and look for the resolution. If it is not 1280 x 720 or thereabouts, it is not HDTV. At 42" you will definitely notice the difference between a standard and a hight definition picture. It is very possible you bought the wrong one, and if I were in your husband's place, I would be moaning too. Question: if he really cared, why didn't he get involved in selecting the set? If he left it up to you entirely it's his fault.

each and every has its pros and cons. Plasma professional: a million. hues are extra shiny. 2. pictures are brighter. 3. Black seems black on plasma. 4. Plasma is extra effective for giant TVs (yet liquid crystal show is getting close). Plasma Con: a million. receives warm. 2. Very intense priced. 3. extra possibly to have burn-ins. liquid crystal show professional: a million. more cost-effective than plasma. 2. would not get as warm as plasma. 3. 100 and seventy degree viewing perspective. 4. a lot less probability of burn-ins. 5. i imagine it lasts longer than plasma (yet i'm no longer one hundred% particular). liquid crystal show Con: a million. hues are not as shiny. 2. Black appears like that is gray. 3. tremendous show screen liquid crystal show must be particularly intense priced. 4. useless spots. useless spots are at the same time as the liquid crystal show mild would not artwork anymore, so that you'll see a black spot the position the mild went out. A astounding purchase worker instructed me that it must be particularly intense priced to get it repaired. truly he stated the completed show screen has to get replaced. i'm no longer particular if he's mendacity or no longer because i imagine he become attempting to promote me the prolonged assure. i in my opinion have an liquid crystal show television, and the 360 performs wonderful on it. I chosen liquid crystal show over plasma specifically using price. Why spend rather a lot 2000 funds on a plasma after I can spend about 1300 on a similar length liquid crystal show (This become numerous years in the past, so back then, HD TVs were intense priced.).

It should have a better picture. If it said HD and the picture doesn't look any better to you, then you probably need a different cable box. Contact your cable or dish company and ask. I don't think they make plasma TVs that aren't HD.

What you probably got is an EDTV, which has 480 lines of resolution--just the same as conventional TV's. "Real" HDTV's have 720 or 1080 lines of resolution (a few models have 768), to provide a much sharper picture.
