That's like asking if some vintage single malt Scotch is worth 80 bucks (and in some cases, vastly more). If you like it *A*LOT* then sure. If not, then no. Half of the price of absinthe is the fact that you can't purchase it locally in the US...you have to have it directly imported to you...shipping costs and such raise that price. The legality question has been beaten to death (though people will continue to ask) and yes, you can legally purchase absinthe from a producer outside of the US and have it shipped to you. However, like Scotch, brandies, and the like, there are a wide variety of styles and qualities...some worth the 80 bucks (assuming of course you like it), and others you'd prefer to use as paint stripper (whether you like absinthe or not).

YMMV

Try some at your local lounge first to see if you even like it.
If you can afford it, go ahead.
I knew a guy who'd drink nothing but Chivas Regal - spendy habit.

if it's REAL then it is, it's not always a party experience though so dont go crazy..most in america or shipped to america have very low thujone wormwood contents so have to buy it in extracts and add it later, or add it to anything you want that tastes better.

No it isn't, and you can usually find it for much less, But it really isn't worth the weight of glass it is contained in.
