Giving up the soda alone would not make you lose weight if you have a poor diet and non-active life style. Why would you want to lose weight in the first place if you only weigh 85 #'s.

You don't say how old you are, that would help. If you weigh 85 pounds and you are a teenager, that is not very much weight. I would not worry about it.

A recent study done by scientists at Harvard University equated drinking one soda a day could add 15 pounds of fat a year in a sedentary lifestyle. You should avoid soda because it depletes minerals from your body, affects bone mass and unnaturally spikes blood sugar. Focus on eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and drinking plenty of water in addition to exercising at least 3 times a week for proper health.

Dont give up pop because you think you need to lose weight, give it up because it rots your teeth and bones overtime. Your bones are at their full potential when your in your very early twenties and then from there its up to you to take care of them with calcium or it all just goes downhill from there, so dont destroy them. Give up drinking so much pop. I believe one a day is okay while your young and I should really take my own advice because i'm addicted to fountain soda and i drink it everyday and have never gained an ounce. You cant gain weight from soda unless you have poor diet to go with it. So really cut down on it for the sake of your teeth and bones.

If you gave up pop for a year and drank like water instead you would lose alot of weight. But 85lbs. is like really skinny, so you probably shouldn't try to lose weight.

You should keep them to a minimum regardless of your weight. Find something healthier that you enjoy. The flavored waters are great!
