Dogs are very protective and territorial. They want to be the Alpha dog or top dog and they consider their family part of a pack they are in. If they see conflict, they get into it partly because they are vying for a place in the pecking order.
They also may get confused about who to be loyal to in a domestic dispute. Don't do this around your dog. It may lead to biting and that is just expensive trouble for everyone, including the dog.
Play fighting often leads to REAL fighting so find a better way to amuse yourself.

Depends on the dog. My dog does that if anyone is rough-housing with my kids. He is very protective, and gets in the middle to "protect" them. My dog is a Rough Collie, and this behavior is typical of this breed.

She probably wants to play, too...
Be careful, though. (Don't reward her efforts by playing with her immediately.) Snarling & growling are not habits you should want to encourage.

What kind is she?

Mine is an Aussie and does the exact same thing.
Mine will usually stand up on the alpha person in the conflict.
She is protecting what she feels is her herd.

So the books say.

to her, she is lead dog and whoever wins the fight takes a place up in the pack therefore threatening her place as lead dog either that or she thinks that other people are trying to attack her pack members and she is trying to protect her pack another thing that lead dogs often do.

Cassie also does this when ever i am playing around with my mom or my dad. She barks, wags her tail and even " talks"
sometimes. When I was little and sassed my mom, I would get a spanking and Cassie would push her way between mom and me and whimper. She doesn't want me to get hurt.

She wants to play to. She might also be confused between people playing and dog playing.

Maybe she doesn't know she's a dog and wants to play too or else she doesn't know it's play fighting.
