Some of the people here answer these question because of the points which I think is crazy because the only reason you need points is to get to the next level so you can answer more questions. However some of us have enough sense to answer questions that we understand. I hope I made your dreams sweeter that sweetest candy.

Honestly: this a a social science question and there are research papers on this very subject.
Some people are simply trying to help others and give correct answers whether the question is serious or not. I for example, I have been a librarian for many years, a HR and Employee advocate, and other helping careers.
Some people on the web are lonely and just want to connect with another person.
Some are bored and just trying to be funny or give shock answers.

lol... because they don't care and only want the 2 points. It's sad but we all know it's true.. I try not to just answer a question with rhetorical bull and actually have something to say or give to the person asking the question. It is the most frustrating thing to see a bonafide question that needs an answer and you get people time and again who will respond "I don't know" or "who cares"... very frustrating but we are not all like that. Sleep well.

Huh? Some do it to get the points, obviously. Others answer questions because they believe they are helping and then there are the jerks that are rude, ignorant pigs.

Because they believe they understand it. To them, the answer they are giving is entirely appropriate, where to another, it is ludicrous! Also, some like the points, or to try and be funny. At any rate, it is a learning process.

Everyone wants to share what they know. Being heard is big ego booster. Some people's need is so great that a proper answer becomes secondary. They are happy as long as they can feel recognized.

Maybe because they think that answering all the questions,even if they doesn't understands it,feels more important and intelligent.
Or because they need to say something and they cant shut up.
