Blah... You didn't get much help above... Downloading something means you put the file on your computer, just like copy and paste from the Internet. Installing something will make that file unpack/unarchive and distribute smaller files throughout your computer. Most of that time that means the program files folder, or even windows, and others systems folders. This will also place the program in your control panel program list, and you'll be able to remove/add it from there. Needless to say downloading is really not doing anything, while installing will affect your computer, especially if you installed malware. Otherwise you'll need to install something to run it most of the time. However there are many 1 or more file programs that will run without installation. Don't install stuff you don't need, as it will slow down your system...

Downloading is simply the process of getting a file from a remote computer onto your own (typically though the Internet).
Installing a program is a process which sets up the program for use once the necessary files are on your computer. Installation may include unpacking files, setting registry entries, creating desktop links, etc.

Downloading puts the file on your computer. Installing actually put the program on your computer.

when you install a product you have the disc on hand put it in drive and install it, but when you download you are doing it from a program on the internet, you do not have the program or disc, such as a game, you buy it and install it to play, if not you download it from the internet.

downloading is putting a program from the internet directly onto your hard drive. Once it is there, you have to install it on your computer so it will work.

The difference is that downloading is simply retrieving data (a movie, a program, a music) from another computer... most often done through the internet.
Installing is opening a program (usually in exe format) which puts software and adapts it to your particular computer.

If you mean how it asks when you start a download if you want to run it or save to disk, if you choose run, it holds it in memory, and runs it right then. Save to disk saves it to your hard drive, so you can install it later.
