Eeee!! Just hearing that someone is waking up that early is disturbing!! ;))) lol.
I'm not a morning person you see but I did this once in my life. It was years ago and I woke up at 3:15 for 3 days in a row. Exact same time each day. Maybe you're thinking about it and your subconscious is acting on it and waking you up. Not sure, but since you're up try some meditation and/or some pondering. Very early morning has the advantage of having things being very still and quiet. A good time to get quiet on the inside.

My first thought when I ready your question was "Wow...I do the same thing" It could very well be a sub-concience craving to go "Burn one". However, the most probably reason is going to be based on your "cycles"

Depending on your age will differ on the amount of sleep you need. Teenagers typically require 8 1/2 to 9 1/4 hours sleep whereas an adult needs 7-9 hours. Also, I heard that people sleep in cycles, so your sleeping for 90 minutes and then wake up for a little bit and going back to sleep. Most people do this all the time and dont realize it. Most experts agree that if your up for about 15 minutes and cant get back to sleep, you should get up and do something till your tired.

I look forward to what others say about this.

I have had this happen to me several times in the past. I was stressed out at the time. Perhaps you have something bothering you too. You might try going to bed at the same time every night for a while even on weekends. If you are going to the bathroom when you awaken, try not to drink a couple of hours before going to bed and empty your bladder before you lay down.
It will eventually pass, but in the meantime, don't try to force yourself to sleep. Just lay quietly and know that resting is also helpful. You might also read with a book light. Make it something pretty boring to you.

If you are looking for a religious answer, then I would say that you wake up early because you need to prepare mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for the day.

Non-religious answer? Your newspaper delivery person is throwing the morning paper at your door at exactly the same time each day, and it wakes you up just enough to notice the time but not enough to realize that it is because of the sound of a newspaper hitting your porch.

It happened to me. Then I realized that the Lord wants me to pray. He wants to reveal something to you. Next time yo wake up that early, get on your knees and ask God what He wants from you. You will be surprised to know how much the Lord loves you.

I do the same thing. Mine is 4:35am. I usually row around trying to go back to sleep, but generally end up getting up at 5

Mmm... strange, but here's my suggestions:

*Swear off caffiene (sp?) after noon
*Take up yoga, pilates, or another breathing-controlled exercise
*Do more exercise (but not right before bed!)
*Listen to music like Pink Floyd or Beatles (unless you have another soothing soundtrack lying about)
*Take a nice hot bath or shower before bed
*Drink herbal tea before bed (hot is best with little sugar)
*Try not to eat anything 1 hour before bed, but do try to eat at least 3 hours before bed

Try those, it may make a full night of sleep easier!

If nothing happens, try talking to your doctor about it.
