Are there any muslim extremists out there willing to declare a jihad against the terrorist factions? Surely it is the will of Allah!

Jihad does not translate to war or violence, Jihad refers to a concerted effort by the believers in Islam.

Cheryl C, Refer to surah 9, the quoran does preach violence, however certainly not to the extent of the old testament.

I am not a Christian and I do not condem Islam. I do believe that the Islamic community would better itself by taking an active stand against terrorism.

Boo Hoo, I do not fault the freedom fighters who take arms against the American occupation, I would expect no less from the people of the U.S.. They fight soldiers, they are resistance. The terrorists use their own people as weapons to destroy innocents... IN THE NAME OF ALLAH! Will the nation of Islam defend the name of Allah?

99% of terrorists who murder innocent civilians with suicide bombs are Muslims. They are not universally condemned by their so-called "peaceful" Muslim brothers and sisters but are venerated, celebrated in the streets, and their families paid enormous sums of money. These are the facts, the occasional (universally condemned, caught, tried and punished) Timothy McVeigh, Unibomber, DC sniper, KKKer or abortion clinic wacko notwithstanding (none of whom kill themselves in the process by the way).

Does this say Islam is a religion of peace, love and life...or of terror, fear and suicide?

Jihad, as I understand it (I am not Muslim myself) is about the struggle, and generally speaking the struggle to defend and uphold the faith. Hence, if the terrorist groups see policies which favor Israel as an attack on their faith by Jewish and Christian nations, I can see how they might justify it that way. Most Muslims do not see the middle east conflict that way, though, from what I can tell.

Muslims who do not approve of Hezbollah, Al-Qaida, etc. would not declare Jihad simply because it is not a defense of the faith. They might condemn it in other ways, however.

As far as Islam being a peaceful religion or not, just remember that a theme in all the Western religions is that humanity is at war: With God (Allah) because of our sin, and with each other due to our own sinful impulses. Peace is a virtue in all of these religons, but is generally seen as ultimately an impossibility. This war is a fact. People still strive for peace when possible, though, putting the battle in God's hands as much as possible. This exact point is where I don't get the muslim extremists, as they seem to think that Allah needs them to defend himself.

Not all Muslims think Jihad is acceptable. Many believe in Jihad, but believe it is a spiritual struggle, not a literally physical one. It depends on how the person interprets it. But just like in the Bible, there are many things that are open to interpretation, when, if interpreted a certain way, can cause pain and suffering.
The basic doctrine of Islam is similar to the christian. They want peace and love, and so do we. Why do they bomb places, and kill people then? for the same reason Christian people held the crusades, and the Salem Witch hunt, the Inquisitions and fought wars in the name of God and country.
There are many different interpretations of Jihad...here is a link I just looked up that does a beautiful job in summing up some of the basic ideas of Jihad and ways to interpret it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jihad

These Muslims who are engaging in these behaviours do not represent the Muslim community. Notice how this doesn't happen to Christians...Timothy McVeigh was a pure bible-thumping Christian, but when his bombs went off no one looked to the Christian community for answers, he was just branded a wacko. Christians who blow up abortion clinics or kill doctors performing abortions are not considered terrorists...but maybe we should ask abortion doctors for their opinion on that. I feel bad for the Muslim community, everyone labelling them as terrorists. There are some Muslims who are terrorists, but that does not mean they speak for the whole community, and it does not mean that the community supports terrorism. The Koran does not preach violence, at least any more than the Bible does. There's plenty of violence in the Bible, but I guess no one likes to read those passages.

If it,s proved that some moslims did terrorism actions, not media and politics lies, all moslims-except extremists-,will oppose those who commit these crimes. But declaring jihad-as war-would be country decision ,not individuals.Personally,I have written many essays in newspapers ,that moslims must study scientifically, this phenomna, which was not in Islam before,or at least ,with others ,so that they can define the best solutions. It,s not weired ,to seek co-operation and help from other counrties ,to find solutions.

Why is it that so many Christians want to call Islam a religions of war and not one of peace? Are these same people willing to call Christianity a religions of war and enslavement because the Christians had the Crusades going(a war against Muslims) and many other wars in the name of their religion all throughout history. They also used the Christian religion to enslave many people throughout the ages. Remember it was only about 150 years ago that slavery throughout the South right here in the USA was justified using the Christian Bible. Yet none of the critics of Islam is willing to say Christianity is a religion of war and enslavement. I am a Christian and find it hard to believe that so called Christians are so quick to condemn another religion. Would Jesus condemn them? He is God and God doesn't make mistakes so think about it before you condemn.

Yo confuse true Islam with extremists. A True Muslim who follows the Holy Quran doesn't provoke war and kill prisoners or captives.

And there are plenty of Christians who bomb abortion clinics and protest outside soldier's funerals. But they don't represent the whole of Christianity do they? Sheesh. A few bad apples does not mean the whole barrel is rotten.
