Some are agnostics just because the way they were raised they don't want to accept that it's ALL wrong. But over all no, I think they are just a more independent thinking and less inclined to have blind faith in a man made establishment, I respect them for the choice. Personally I'm an atheist, guess I was agnostic for like 3 months in between completely abandoning religion and completely accepting.

razorblade_love that is completely false. Some atheists were raised where they've never heard of your God and therefore don't have any reason to ever have any faith in it whatsoever. And I was raised with it instilled into my brain and I really honestly have no faith whatsoever, and if you pretend to know that I do and say I'm in denial then you'd just be arrogant. Anyways, that's wrong.

Agnostics, like myself, have their own set of beliefs. I'm not more an athiest than a hindu is: it's just a different set of beliefs, in this case that the knowledge of god is untainable. You can make assumptions if you want, like athiesm or theism, but the only assumption I make is that true knowledge isn't attainable.

Thanks for the agnosticism bashing, I haven't seen much of it on the site!

But seriously now, agnostics are the people who don't just go with a gut reaction: we are the ones that see possibilities but no proof, evidence for everything and demonstration of nothing. We are the ones with the most open minds (though my saying that is pretty closed minded, so I'm going to assume that's just an opinion and not objective fact).

Personally, if nothing else, I simply feel that agnosticism is a better stance than Athiesm. Though they amount to many of the same things (lack of dedication to any entity, no definitive rituals, etc), agnosticism has the point of being unable to be challanged. You can respond "maybe" and "That's not proof" to everything... well not everything. Even agnostics can point out what's logically WRONG. But even if you proved every religion on the planet to be incorrect, that wouldn't prove there's no divine entity. That'd simply prove that none of our concepts of the divine entity (if there is one) is correct.

I'd criticize you for your ignorance, but ignorance is about what Agnosticism is all about (though it's about awareness of ignorance, rather than ignorance covered by faith in nothing or in a higher power).

They're probably scared of both people and of their idea that there just might be a god. Athiests are a deeply hated group in our society. A recent survey on the internet found that people distrusted athiests more than gays or Muslims.

A lot of people have been propagandized to think that athiests are totally amoral and will do anything to get ahead. Athiests are also treated like everyone thinks they're angry inside.

The fact of the matter is that you don't need religion to be a moral person, and you don't need to be an angry person to be athiest. There's so much more & stronger proof for athiesm than there ever will be for any religion.

A true agnostic is as far from atheism as he is from Christianity. Atheists assert that God does not exist. Christians assert that God does exist. Agnosticism says we don't and can't know, and that both sides are silly to claim knowledge in the area.

No.
I believe in God; but I'm agnostic because I don't know and I don't care whether God exists...or what his name is...whether I have a purpose...or how I got here...

Agnosticism for most people is probably a temporary state-a period of indecisiveness. Eventually, they may become either atheist or "religious".

You need to get your facts straight. There is a big difference.

An atheist is someone who outright denies the existence of God.

An agnostic is someone who says, "God may or may not exist. I don't know. All I know is I haven't seen scientific proof."

not necessarily. atheists are generally former believers turned off by the incessant ranting and illiogical ravings of their preachers, pastors etc. agnostics are just stuck in the middle. they believe in something but not sure what.

I doubt seriously if they're worried about being "socially more acceptable." I don't really think it matters one way or the other. People are entitled to their beliefs, whatever they may be.

I honestly don't believe them if they are
highly educated people, but for those who
are really confused on the matter,I believe
them. It's those who are very intelligent
that I personally believe are lying, but I try
not to judge them,I just don't trust them.

I really don't know if there is or isn't a god. If I called myself an atheist, then I would be lying.
