Being a mom if my daughter wanted one I would feel better if she told me I was a cool mom and help her pick one out. Sometimes as a mother we think its for show and want to know who you will be showing. Tell her it helps hide pantilines with dress pants. Most girls your age wear them and in gym class when you change they see you. Hope this helps. IF it does vote me for best answer...

I guess the way to answer this is with another question.
Why do you want them? If the answer is related to comfort, then I think you talk to your mom about the fact that they are in fact more comfortable, that you dont then have to spend the day picking at your undies!
I think this also depends upon your age, thongs are considered to be a bit more "sexy" and your mom I am sure does not want you growing up to fast!! So think about the real reason...if its really about being "sexy" then maybe respect your moms thoughts on this one :)

i am a mom to teenage girls, and it took me a while to buy my girls thongs, explain to her that they are all the rage, and granny nickers are out, baggy and uncomfortable.... make it as a joke, and laugh about it... and just settle for some normal nickers and see if you cant put in a couple of pairs of thongs as well, parhapes just not brief ones, for this first time, good luck,

i had the same problem. It was really uncomfortable telling my mom i was growing up and i wanted to wear more revealing underwear. Just be honest, tell her that you want to avoid having any lines showing through your clothes, and that by using that kind of underwear you will not change anything about your values, if that's what she's worried about. Just be honest...

Just ask her if you can get one. The worst she will say is no. If she does say no, then get one with a friend and make sure it stays out of her sight. Or, you can show her some real respect and wait until she approves or you are older before getting one.

ok..if you're over 13 just be honest with her..tell her your interested in trying them, at least one pair to try. let her know she can trust you NOT to flaunt them, you merely wish to try em...
if shes fairly easy to talk to she should understand your curiosity
she'll feel better knowing your not trying to show off or trying to be overly mature..its just a curiosity...i wouldnt even use the girls my age wear em all the time routine..thats kinda immaturish...use the curiosity approach with a touch of responsible guilt thrown in... if your mom believes you to be of reasonable judgement & responsible, she'll give in...

Just tell her you want to have one, or ask her for the money and say you saw something you liked, buy it, and don't mention it to her. If she ends up finding out just say you liked it, I don't think she'll make you take it back, it's just a pair of undies. Teehee!

Save up for your own sexy underwear. Do you really want your mum buying you anything other than sensible pants? I'm sure she doesn't want to be asked! You can make your own decisions on this when you're old enough not to have to rely on her to buy them for you.

Just tell her they're more comfortable for you because they aren't riding up all the time...also because they're smaller and you don't have to worry about them sticking out the top of your pants. If it's your money you shouldn't have to explain it...
