Cheeez! Every time I get a document from a colleague or a simple fax cover sheet and make a minor correction to it, I end up with red lines, blue type, automatic bullets, auto correct features and an old version that I revised months ago. I JUST WANT TO PRINT A ONE PAGE TEMPLATE!

Anyone else have the same frustration as me?

A brief, well told tale of Microsoft Word anguish gets you 10 points. You derserve 50 but 10 is all I can control.

Oy! Thank you for raising your voice in protest!

No single story, sorry...but every time I try to compose, or download something from the Web and re-format it at work, the page goes all kittywompus...strange icons and symbols appear, little imps attach themselves to my cursor, I'm preventing from deleting, or unwanted numbers and bullets appear uninvoked. Bill Gates won't let me write deliberate fragments and wants to control my style in other ways as well.

Most times, I give up, go home and perform the task on my Mac, where everything is predictable and every command is at my fingertips. Thank you, Steve Jobs!

*sigh* And people don't understand why we willingly pay more for a Macintosh....

Yup. Unfortunately in my opinion Microsoft still makes the best office suite at any price on any platform and I'm about as anti-Microsoft as anyone. OpenOffice is pretty good on Windows, but I like Macs and Office for Mac is actually pretty good.

Having programs trying to think for you all the time is frustrating, but Word is miles ahead of Frontpage. You can turn off a lot of that auto inserting / auto correction in Word, but how to do it is different in just about every version unfortunately. Look in the Settings / Preferences.

The features that bug me the most in Office is that by default the menus only show you what you've used recently, the odd way dates switch format in Excel, and any web editor that autocompletes tags and deletes your tabs and spacing.

Here is a link to info (a user's review) about Open Office, free. There is a link on this page to the open office site.

I understand the problems with MS Word. I've done a newsletter for several years, and it still gives me problems. I just haven't had time to download open office. The worst problem I had was page numbering. Lo and behold, once when I finished the newsletter, the pages were all the same number! I finally sent it to a friend and he fixed it, but he wasn't sure how he did it. :) "Help" is useless.

Good luck.
