An islamic terrorist has been brainwashed into thinking blowing up kids on a bus is a good thing; many christians have been brainwashed into thinking that discrimination based on sexual orientation is correct. Just 2 examples of why brainwashing hurts people.

I think you don't know what 'brainwashing' means, for one thing.

People who believe that people should think for themselves oppose brainwashing, by definition, as it is imposing thinking on others.

The term is, by nature, negative, what people disagree about (usually) is what they consider 'brainwashing.'

In its origins, the word arose to describe a form of torture. Hence the negative connotations.

Although I agree (more or less) that "the world is a terrible place" I consider brainwashing to be one of the major contributing factors, not a cure.

the double standard would not exist interior atheism. that is only a lack of conception in deities. that's not a series of beliefs. Now many atheists DO have a series of beliefs, yet that conception set isn't atheism itself. someone would or may no longer be an atheist because there is not any clinical info for a deity, besides the undeniable fact that the justifications for being an atheist may also variety from atheist to atheist. that isn't be the clarification in any respect. "the conception contained in the non-existence of "God" is an fullyyt faith-depending premise" nicely you do not call the conception contained in the non-existence of Santa Clause faith depending. i imagine it truly is slightly a double standard the following. you don't be counted on Zeus. Is your conception contained in the non-existence of the deity Zeus faith depending? "If hardline atheists were problem-free with themselves they'd be agnostic." tremendous. i'm agnostic. i'm an agnostic atheist. "yet in case you're attempting to describe that, you'll regularly be greeted with hostility such as religious zeal." If really shocks you that telling someone they're brainwashed may piss them off? i encounter it thrilling that you've met a pair @ssholes on the internet and now you imagine you recognize all there is to learn about atheism. you do not imagine that is slightly short sighted?

I didn't know brainwashing had an upside.

All it does is restrict or destroy the free will of the individual. How can that be a good thing?

No, that's no good at all. People need to face reality and deal with it, not hide behind religion. Society can seem to be in a rut, so do better and raise your kids to do better and be strong and face the truth. It's really not good to just avoid a problem or to do anything just because it's easier.

Mmmmmmm, fiiiilth!

Being brainwashed can be good. You would want to "brainwash" kids to not grow up to be thieves and murders for example.

If brainwashing removes your power of choice about your eternal destiny as it often does by definition, then it is ultimately harmful.

This will be the "Era of the Freed Humankind", or something like that.
